As Red and Antea make their way through the haunted town of New Eden in Banishers, they'll come up against a myriad of ghouls, ghosts, and other terrifying creatures who can pose quite the challenge in combat. Both of the playable ghost hunters come with their own unique fighting styles, with Red being more of a bruiser, while Antea can make use of special spiritual powers and abilities to get the drop on her opponents. Since the enemy types will only get stronger and more durable as the game goes on, though, players will need to start picking up skills as soon as possible to stand any chance of making it out of every encounter in one piece.
Banishers: Ghosts Of New Eden - Difficulty Differences
Banishers: Ghosts Of New Eden has five difficulties. But which one should you pick?
The skill tree is quite easy to follow, with it being split into five smaller trees that all feature their own unique abilities and techniques that can be acquired for both Red and Antea. The difference, though, is that while Red's skills can be purchased with skill points, Antea must instead use Essence, which can be acquired through Haunting Cases. Those first few hours of Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden can be brutal without knowing what skills to pick up first, so this list is going to cover the best ones to pick up as soon as possible to make the early experience a little more forgiving.
6 Invigorate
Ability: Banishing An Enemy Will Increase The Damage Of The Next Heavy Attack By 200%
Every time Red lands a successful hit on an enemy, he will fill up part of his Banish meter. Using this will unleash a powerful special ability that can take down most enemies with a single hit, even if they're highly leveled, but having the Invigorate skill means that if anyone is still left standing, Red will be able to make quick work of them in no time. Heavy attacks are already strong enough to topple most enemies, but the long wind-up animation means they are a little risky to pull off; knowing that they are guaranteed to kill helps to make them more reliable overall.
This can be especially useful in the first few areas of the game where multiple ghosts are thrown in the player's direction all at once. Whittling down their health with light attacks is still a viable option, but this can take a lot of time and will inevitably result in health being lost during the encounter; being able to resolve these battles with Invigorate helps to make things a lot easier.
5 Unrelenting
Ability: Each Enemy Hit By A Light Attack Increases The Damage Of Light Attacks By 10%. Resets On Being Hit.
Light attacks are what players are going to be throwing out for most of the game's encounters. These types of attacks are so fast that they give Red more than enough time to block and parry the enemy in between his slashes, meaning they can be incorporated into a fast and deadly fighting style and can become lethal when paired up with the Unrelenting skill. On the surface, the simple stat buff of this Skill can seem a little basic, but it can make those early encounters so much more straightforward.
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden’s Rituals Explained
Banishers players must complete a variety of rituals on their trek to New Eden, and each features unique materials and haunting parameters.
Though players will be able to upgrade their weapons when near a shelter, these can often cost quite a few precious resources, which aren't always easy to find until later in the game. Therefore, the Unrelenting skill can help to make up for this and gives players a fighting chance when coming face to face with the many dangerous entities that lurk around New Eden.
4 Counterblow
Ability: Switch To Antea Right After Blocking To Trigger A Punch That Ignores Resistances
During combat, players will be able to switch between Red and Antea, who both possess their own unique attacks and special abilities, but there are a few skills that can complement this back-and-forth playstyle, and one of the best is Counterblow. Because of how difficult it can be to parry, blocking enemy attacks is often the best way to go when a skeleton or ghost won't stop slashing at Red, but rather than sitting there and taking it, Counterblow grants the opportunity to execute a quick attack after a successful block.
What's more is that the punch Antea delivers will ignore all resistances, and if it's used on a smaller enemy, it will launch them back, leaving them wide open for an attack. This is also a good skill for learning how to switch between the two ghost hunters on the fly since this becomes a lot more useful later down the line as better skills for the two become unlocked.
3 Spirit Stash
Ability: Defeating An Enemy With A Punch Refills The Banish Gauge By 20%
While Red and Antea can perform combo attacks together, there are also ways they can support one another while acting independently, such as with Spirit Stash, which can slowly refill Red's Banish Gauge while playing as Antea. Though Antea's punches are a little weaker than Red's light attacks, they're still incredibly fast and can be used to pull off some devastating combos once she unlocks more moves.
It goes without saying that being able to re-fill Red's Banish Gauge whilst beating up an enemy with Antea is a great bit of teamwork as it kills two birds with one stone, but it's important to remember that this only happens if she delivers the final blow. Therefore, it's not a bad idea to weaken an enemy with Red's heavy attacks, before then passing the baton over to Antea who can finish the enemy off, granting Red his Banisher Gauge points in the process.
2 Pocket Of Holding
Ability: Maximum Decoction Charges Increased By 1
There aren't many ways to refill health in Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, so players are encouraged to practice caution when getting stuck into a fight since being attacked over and over again can prove to be very costly. Thankfully, Red will be able to carry around 3 Decoctions at the beginning of the game, which will act as health potions. Because campfires can start to become a lot less frequent, it means recharging Decoctions isn't always an easy task, so being able to have even a single extra one in reserve makes a huge difference.
It should also be noted that this Skill can be made even more effective if players take the time to upgrade their Decoctions at a shelter. This will allow them to restore more HP and Spirit while also coming with small extra buffs such as a damage reduction. Pairing this up with the Pocket of Holding skill can make both Red and Antea much more durable, which is always a good thing.
1 Barrier
Ability: Defeating An Enemy With A Heavy Attack Reduces The Next Damage Taken By 90%
Heavy attacks are capable of annihilating basic enemies if they manage to make contact, but because of their lengthy animations, it means actually pulling this off is a lot easier said than done. The Barrier skill helps to negate this issue since even if Red launches a risky heavy attack to finish off an enemy if someone else then goes to strike at him during the attack, he'll take little to no damage thanks to this buff.
This is an essential skill to learn early on, but it will also remain useful for the entire game and can become an absolute lifesaver when taking on bosses who also have several smaller enemies helping them, such as Sorrow, for example. As powerful as heavy attacks may be, it's never a guarantee that Red will be able to throw one out without receiving a few hits in the process, but the Barrier skill largely negates this and makes them much more viable when in the middle of a hectic battle.
