- Elden Ring and Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero drove the profit increase.
- The company is expecting a decline in sales and profits for the next fiscal year.
Despite significant challenges throughout much of 2024, Bandai Namco has seen its gaming profits surge by almost 1,000% in the last fiscal year. The Japanese gaming giant has kept busy in recent months, with expansions and big announcements for Elden Ring and the release of Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero. Those efforts seemed to have paid off, as Bandai Namco's financial results have exceeded its own expectations.
The past year was by no means an easy one for the conglomerate. Reports suggested that Bandai Namco let go of over 100 employees between April 2024 and February 2025. It also shut down its MMO Blue Protocol and canceled the mobile title Tales of the Rays, among other games that never made it out of development. Despite those hits, the latest earnings report shows that the company has recovered in impressive fashion.
New Bandai Namco Trademark May Hint at New Katamari Game
A recent trademark filing by Bandai Namco could be good news for fans of the Katamari games, suggesting a new project might be in the works.
As reported by GameBiz, Bandai Namco's digital segment saw 995.1% profit growth in the fiscal year ending in March 2025. That's thanks to over $3 billion in sales for the year, when the company was planning on a $2.5 billion sales figure for the home video game and mobile gaming department. Much of those sales came from a few key titles, most notably, an uptick in gamers buying Elden Ring content. After the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, Elden Ring reclaimed its spot as the top-selling game in June 2024, its first appearance at the top of the monthly sales chart since its 2022 release.
Elden Ring and Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Drive a 995.1% Profit Increase for Bandai Namco
Elden Ring wasn't Bandai Namco's only major success, though. According to the earnings report, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero sold 5.4 million copies during the period to help drive profits even higher. Those sales figures made Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero the fastest-selling Dragon Ball console title to date and the third-highest-selling Bandai Namco game of all time.
Looking ahead, the company expects a decline in sales and profits for the next fiscal year. That could be just a matter of Bandai Namco recognizing that a near-1,000% profit increase is unlikely to happen again, even with a strong lineup. Still, the company has some big titles in the works for fans to look forward to. Beloved gaming icon Masahiro Sakurai revealed that Bandai Namco will help develop Kirby Air Riders for the Switch 2, and there's the Tarnished Edition of Elden Ring coming soon as well. Replicating this past year's success will be hard, but things are looking good for Bandai Namco right now.
