John Wick 5 Director Reveals How The Movie Can Happen After Part 4's Ending
John Wick 5 will not be a direct continuation of the last film and a prominent figure will noticeably be missing.
Wiseman was talking about Norman Reedus. The Walking Dead star made his debut in the John Wick franchise by appearing in Ballerina, where he plays Daniel Pine, an assassin who would do anything to keep his daughter Ella (Ava Joyce McCarthy) from being like him — a killer. Reedus had scant screen time in the film and only appeared in two scenes. In the first scene, Daniel works with Eve to keep Ella safe and away from the Chancellor (Gabriel Byrne). In the second scene, the father and daughter reunite toward the end of the movie. However, Wiseman has big plans for Reedus' Daniel should they score a sequel. He said:
I cast Norman Reedus because I have plans for him. And I would love to see him come back in a way that he's now kind of indebted to her.
Ballerina Director Len Wiseman Wants To Bring Norman Reedus Back For A Sequel
The Ruska Roma trained Eve to be an assassin. In her search to seek vengeance for her father's murder, Eve finds herself in the Austrian mountain village of Hallstatt, a stronghold of the Chancellor's followers. She saves Ella from the Chancellor, who plans to groom her to be among his assassins. Eve successfully kills the Chancellor and brings Ella to her dad. Wiseman aims to feature more of Daniel in the next film and show his and his family's connection to the Chancellor's cult-like organization. The filmmaker also has plans for de Armas' Eve in the next film, now that she has found out the truth about her past — that just like Ella, she was abducted. Wiseman admitted that at one point, they wrote a scene where Eve would meet her mother, whom many thought was already dead. However, they never get there. He also teased how the film ended with a contract after Eve, and it was never revealed who the contractor was. He teased that the contractor might have some connection with Eve's mom. Wiseman said:
And if that path led to that, maybe her own mother [put the hit on her]. That would be brutal.
The Ballerina sequel hasn't been greenlit yet, but the movie's ending has set up a possible sequel. It's likely that de Armas would return in another Ballerina movie to continue Eve's story, and by then, Reedus' Daniel will likely have a more to do onscreen. John Wick producer Erica Lee previously told Collider that they were working on a lot of stuff in the Wick universe, and she mentioned that she was hopeful for a Ballerina 2 and John Wick 5. The latter is already greenlit, so it's likely that Ballerina 2 could also be officially announced soon if it performs well at the box office.
Ballerina is showing in theatres worldwide.
