With each subsequent run, you'll find yourself stumbling upon new synergies and strategies, with the game's upgrade system forcing players to experiment with new ball combos more often than not. After an ungodly amount of time down in the depths, I now feel confident enough to rank the best balls in Ball x Pit.

- Sun (Burn x Flash) - Arguably the most broken ball in Ball x Pit. Offers both AoE and status damage without the need for fusion. Makes just about any other ball in the game better when fused.
- Hemorrhage (Bleed x Iron) - The ultimate boss killer. One of the best balls in New Game + mode. Pairs well with Maggot, Magma, and Berserk, as well as any of the three big AoE balls (Flash, Flicker, and Sun).
- Maggot (Brood Mother x Cell) - Weak on its own, but makes almost any ball unstoppable when fused. Avoid using with The Empty Nester or The Makeshift Sisyphus.
- Burn - The best basic ball in the game. Offers Evolution options with ten of the other basic balls, making it an easy pick for those wanting to keep their options open.
- Virus (Cell x Poison or Ghost x Poison) - Disease automatically jumps from one enemy to the next. Becomes deadly when fused with Flash, Flicker, or Sun, or any of the mosquito-based balls.
- Satan (Incubus x Sucubus) - A direct upgrade to Sun, combining massive AoE burn with a berserk effect that makes enemies kill each other. Hard to obtain, but one of the best Ball x Pit balls for raw damage.
- Frozen Flame (Burn x Freeze) - Frostburn deals damage over time, while also making enemies take increased damage from all other sources. Its 20-second duration gives it the edge over similar options.
- Nuclear Bomb (Bomb x Poison) - The heaviest hitter in the game. Deals massive localized damage and leaves behind a radiation field that permanently weakens surviving enemies.
- Glacier (Earthquake x Freeze) - Ice spikes freeze enemies in place, creating artificial choke points throughout the pit. Spikes deal surprisingly high damage when compared to similar balls.
- Magma (Burn x Earthquake) - Creates persistent lava pools on the floor, allowing you to deal passive damage to ground units while your main balls focus on targets further up the screen. Comes into its own when fused.
- Mosquito King (Brood Mother x Vampire) - The gold standard for survival builds. Spawns a swarm of mosquitoes that steal health from enemies. Effective in crowded areas or when fused with status spreading balls like Virus.
- Berserk (Bleed x Charm or Burn x Charm) - Turns enemies against their allies, causing huge amounts of damage in crowded areas. Works well when fused with Hemorrhage
- Inferno (Burn x Wind) - Creates a massive fire aura that applies burn stacks to every enemy within a two-tile radius, making it the best close-range defensive tool.
- Swamp (Poison x Earthquake) - Transforms the floor into a toxic terrain that slows enemies to a crawl while slowly ticking away at their health.
- Spider Queen (Brood Mother x Egg Sac) - The queen of multi-ball builds. Has a massive proc rate for spawning Egg Sacs, allowing you to fill the screen with hundreds of baby balls in seconds.

Radiation Beam is a fantastic choice when it comes to support balls, as too is Leech if you're planning to build around Bleed. Generally, balls that focus entirely on damage with no added effects are a waste of a slot, but Bomb manages to buck this trend with its exceptionally high AOE damage and reasonable cooldown time. Noxious and Mosquito Swarm are both very good options, but you're better off going for Virus and Mosquito King where possible.

Poison offers some very good options when it comes to evolutions, but you're arguably better off going with Burn where possible. Black Hole sounds very good on paper, but it's very situational and struggles to justify its long cooldown and complex evolution formula (it requires Sun, which is arguably a much better ball unfused). Sacrifice isn't the worst shout if you're open to a Bleed-focused build, although, in most situations, you'd be much better off with Hemorrhage, particularly if you're playing on New Game + mode.

Laser (Horizontal) is probably the best of the two lasers, but its upgrade path is fairly weak. The full-screen AOE damage provided by Flicker sounds good on paper, but it's a little too low to be viable, especially when Sun and Flash are a thing. Likewise, the healing potential of Lovestruck may seem appealing at a glance, but its damage output is nonexistent. If you really want to incorporate healing into your build, you'd be better off targeting one of the two Mosquito balls instead.

You're going to need Charm if you want to get Satan, which is probably the best ball in the game. However, the rest of its evolutions are pretty underwhelming, especially when you consider that this is the last of the basic balls to be unlocked (you get charm after your first clear of The Heavenly x Gates). Succubus and Wraith are probably the two worst evolutions in the game, with the latter offering next to nothing when playing as certain Ball x Pit characters and the former being completely overshadowed by Incubus.
