Starting The Quest To Find The Nightsong In Act 1

Aradin at Emerald Grove in Baldur's Gate 3

There are several ways you can start the quest to find Nightsong. However, the earliest opportunity arrives when you speak to Aradin at the Emerald Grove. Speaking to Aradin, you can learn about and acquire the contract on finding a relic — the Nightsong!

You will also learn about the involvement of Halsin in finding Nightsong, and that he’s been captured by the goblins. The next step now is to visit the Goblin camp and look for relevant clues.

Finding The Clue At The Goblin Camp In Act 1

Tracker Klagga revealing details on the Nightsong in Baldur's Gate 3

The Goblin camp is located in the western region of the Act 1 map, and there are multiple ways to infiltrate it. You can persuade the guards at the camp’s entrance, use the help of a captive goblin named Sazza, or simply fight your way into the camp. However, it’s recommended that you use diplomatic means to enter the camp. There are some interesting characters and merchants in the camp, and you wouldn’t want to kill them without interacting with them first.

Once you’ve made it to an area in the camp where goblins are partying, you must seek out a goblin named Trackker Klagga.

You must speak and persuade Klagga to reveal the clue on Nightsong. The next step in the quest involves discovering what is below the Goblin camp, which will take you to a new region — the Underdark!

There are several ways you can reach the Underdark, and it’s recommended that you discover all ways to reach this location just for the fun of it. However, for the quest’s sake, you can find the path through the Goblin camp that leads you to the Underdark.

To reach the Underdark, you must first make your way to the Defiled Temple, which can be reached from True Soul Gut’s room. Next, you must solve Stone Disc Puzzle to unlock the stone door leading you to the Underdark.

Journey To The Shadow-Cursed Lands (Enter Act 2)

The party reaches Shadow-Cursed Lands in Baldur's Gate 3

Once you’ve made it to the Underdark, you must explore this area and reach the Decrepit Village, where you must take the Underdark Duergar Boat to reach the Gymforge.

After reaching Gymforge, navigate this region while heading in the eastern direction. Eventually, you’ll come across an elevator that takes you to another level while also progressing you to Act 2.

Now, take the stairs and head a short distance west until you reach the double doors that open to the Shadow-Cursed Lands.

Alternatively, you can reach Act 2 by traveling through the Mountain Pass route. To avoid skipping great content, head to the Mountain Pass first, complete that area, and then return to the Underdark to finish exploring that area before advancing into Act 2.

Party interacting with a painting in Thorm Mausoleum

The Shadow-Cursed Lands is a treacherous region, and to safely explore it, you must either acquire a lantern or a blessing. You should expect to spend a good amount of time in the Shadow-Cursed Lands before making it to the Thorm Mausoleum.

The ideal route to reach the Thorm Mausoleum involves first finding Last Light Inn, then traveling southwest to Reithwin Town, and then heading north to the House of Healing.

Once you reach the House of Healing, Thorm Mausoleum is just north of this structure.

Discover The Gauntlet Of Shar

After finding yourself inside Thorm Mausoleum, explore this region while heading in a northerly direction. You’ll eventually come across a room with three large paintings and a bunch of traps. Hovering over the paintings reveals their respective names.

To unlock the way forward, you must interact with these three paintings in the following order:

  • Moonrise Towers
  • Grief
  • General

The unlocked path leads to an elevator, which takes you into the Gauntlet of Shar.

The Gauntlet of Shar is a sprawling puzzle dungeon that involves passing four trials to collect four Umbral gems and the Spear of the Night. Once players have these items, they can use them to teleport to the Shadowfell realm to find the Nightsong. You can refer to our dedicated Gauntlet of Shar guide to complete the trials and enter the Shadowfell.

In the Shadowfell, you’ll also discover that Nightsong is an Aasimar Paladin and that she serves the Moon Goddess, Selune. Nightsong has been held captive by Balthazar for her powers, as they fuel Ketheric Thorm’s invulnerability. Before you can interact with Nightsong, you must kill Balthazar and his ghouls.

Deciding The Nightsong’s Fate

Having dealt with Balthazar, you can now speak to Dame Aylin, aka. Nightsong, and decide whether you want to kill her or set her free.

Killing Nightsong fulfils Shadowheart’s quest to become a Dark Justiciar. On the other hand, letting Nightsong go turns her into an ally, who will support you in your battle against the Ketheric Thorm. Moreover, you get to further pursue her quests for additional content.
