A Dungeons and Dragons fan recreated the Honor Among Thieves character Doric in Baldur's Gate 3. The game's been in PC early access since 2020, with the official Windows and Mac release coming next month, a PS5 port in September, and an Xbox Series X/S planned for later on. Many Dungeons and Dragons fans are excited by Baldur's Gate 3's 1.0 release, and this inspired a fan to base their character on one from the recent movie.

The Baldur's Gate series and the Honor Among Thieves movie take place in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting from Dungeons and Dragons. BioWare, Black Isle Studios, and Interplay Entertainment released the first game in 1998, with Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn launching in 2000. However, the series entered a period of relative inactivity after Dark Alliance 2 in 2004. The Baldur's Gate series wouldn't continue until 2016's Siege of Dragonspear expansion for Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition.

Reddit user tommypicture recently shared their Teifling Druid from Baldur's Gate 3, having based the character on Doric from Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. As the Baldur's Gate 3 player explained, they are excited about the game's upcoming full release. Therefore, tommypicture has been diving into as much D&D content as possible. After watching Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, they read the prequel novel The Druid's Call depicting how Doric joined the Emerald Enclave. The movie and book inspired tommypicture to play as a version of Doric in Baldur's Gate 3.

D&D as a franchise does not have the perfect track record for movie adaptations. However, Honor Among Thieves saw a much more positive reception, earning critical acclaim and bringing in over $208 million at the box office. Given the movie's popularity, it's not surprising that some Baldur's Gate 3 players decide to base their characters on ones from the film.

Developers only recently added the ability for players to tweak the character preset faces in Baldur’s Gate 3, and it still doesn't offer the extremely detailed level of character customization seen in some RPGs. Nevertheless, tommypicture did a pretty good job recreating Doric in the game. While the player couldn't perfectly replicate actress Sophia Lillis' facial features, they created a pretty good approximation of how she looks in the movie.

The post was received positively on the Baldur's Gate 3 subreddit, with commenters praising how much the character looks like Doric. One commenter specifically pointed to the character’s expression as a significant factor in creating the likeness to actress Sophia Lillis. Another commenter said that tommypicture's character could pass as an older version of Doric.

Baldur's Gate 3 releases on August 3 for PC, on September 6 for PS5, and is in development for Xbox Series X/S.
