With huge hits like Baldur's Gate 3 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 under her belt, English has been on a hot streak over the last few years. The actor has firmly established herself as a top talent in the eyes of the gaming community, and her upcoming role as the lead of Tides of Annihilation has the potential to further propel her reputation as a star in various big titles.
Baldur's Gate 3's New Console Content is Only the Tip of the Iceberg
With an unexpected wave of new content gracing Baldur's Gate 3 on consoles, this may be a sign of even more coming down the pipeline.
Baldur's Gate 3 Shadowheart Actor Hates Being Called a Voice Actor 'So Much'
Speaking while livestreaming her playthrough of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, English spoke alongside her partner and actor Aliona Baranova about the important distinction between “actor” and “voice actor,” saying, “For Baldur's Gate 3, I hate, hate being called 'voice actor' so much. It makes me really angry, because it just completely gets rid of all my other career as an actor.”
English was also bothered by how the phrase “voice actor” can also negate any motion capture done throughout the process, pointing out, “It gets rid of the motion capture that we do for a lot of video games and kind of negates that.” Motion capture performances are undoubtedly a very different skill to voice acting, so it's understandable when individuals who often put years of their lives into a performance feel like their contributions are being diminished, albeit often unintentionally.
It remains to be seen whether Jennifer English will ever play Shadowheart again. The character's popularity means that her inclusion in future projects feels like a distinct possibility, although English has previously revealed that she has certain conditions to return as Shadowheart in future Baldur's Gate projects. Without Larian's involvement, it remains to be seen if the franchise's future developer can meet those conditions.
