Baldur's Gate 3 players are raising concerns about parts of the Redemption Durge storyline, especially in Act 3. Many Baldur's Gate 3 fans think that the heroic version of the Dark Urge story doesn't have enough emotional impact in key moments, especially near the end of the game, and are asking Larian Studios to improve it.

Baldur's Gate 3 Act 3 Spoilers Ahead

“Redemption Durge" is a storyline for players who pick the Dark Urge origin in Baldur’s Gate 3 and try to resist the dark impulses that come with it. The Dark Urge is a character with a violent, forgotten history. Throughout the game, the Durge is tempted to do terrible things, but players can choose to take a redemptive path, fighting against those impulses to create a more heroic storyline. However, some players feel that this redemption route has emotional gaps.

A Reddit user named FloriForgetful sparked a discussion by highlighting two major moments in Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 3 where the redemption storyline seems to stumble. The first issue comes up during the encounter with Gortash at Wyrm's Rock fortress. Here, Durge's companions react with extreme harshness when they find out about Durge's past as Bhaal’s chosen one. While some shock and mistrust are understandable, players argue that their companions' reactions feel overly harsh, especially if Durge has been resisting their darker urges or has built strong relationships with high approval from the group.

Baldur's Gate 3 Players' Concerns About the Redemption Durge Storyline

The second, and possibly more significant, issue is the scene where the Durge dies and is later brought back to life. Players have noted that the complete lack of any emotional reaction from Durge's companions in this moment feels strange, especially in a game that puts such a strong focus on themes of love and support. Watching their close friend, or even lover, die, only to be met with blank stares from the companions, feels out of place and emotionally flat for players.

FloriForgetful’s post struck a chord with many other players, who shared similar concerns and highlighted additional missed chances for emotional engagement, particularly in Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 2. Several players pointed out that key moments related to Durge’s past are met with little to no reaction from the companions. This lack of response feels especially jarring compared to how the characters react to more minor events in the game.

Despite the introduction of Baldur’s Gate 3 patch 7, which brought new dialogue options, expanded cinematics, and a couple of enhancements to the Dark Urge, players feel the emotional weight of Durge’s story could be better reflected in companion interactions, especially during pivotal moments in the narrative. The conversation around these gaps has left fans hopeful that Larian Studios will address these issues in future updates.
