According to a Reddit thread by 6Kaliba9, they brought goblin-filled barrels all the way to Act 3 in Baldur’s Gate 3, presumably intending to use them at the most appropriate moment. Those barrels, actually harboring drunk kobolds rather than goblins in them, are only obtainable in Act 1 when players embark on a journey to explore the Temple of Lathander. Initially filled with wine, the barrels became an excellent shelter for kobolds who had consumed the beverage and fallen asleep in the freed-up containers. Players can pick them up and throw them at enemies to create a flammable wine surface, releasing drunk kobolds upon impact. They’ll fight the opponents, providing players with a useful tactical opportunity.
