The highly-anticipated Baldur's Gate 3 is nearly here, as fans eagerly await the game's full release after about three years of Early Access. Developed by Larian Studios – of Divinity: Original Sin 2 fame – this third entry deviates from the other two Baldur's Gate games in a few key ways, mainly that it's based on the Fifth Edition ruleset for Dungeons and Dragons. Though players will get their hands on the full version of Baldur's Gate 3 very soon, the full game will only release on PC at first. It will eventually release on consoles, starting with the PlayStation 5 (which has a release date already) and later on, a version will release for Xbox. Baldur's Gate 3 PC Exact Release Times
On PC, Baldur's Gate 3 will release on August 3, 2023... For most players. Depending on one's time zone, that could actually be August 4. There has been much speculation as to when players can expect the full version of Baldur's Gate 3 to unlock – thanks to Larian Studios and the Baldur's Gate 3 social media team, we know it will have a concurrent Global release.
The handy Global Release time map Baldur's Gate 3 released shows what time to expect the game to become available across the world. When it's 8 a.m. On August 3 in Los Angeles (the PST timezone), it's also 5 p.m. In Gent, Belgium (the home city of Larian Studios) and 12 a.m. On August 4 in Tokyo.
As such, no-one will get access to the game earlier than anyone else – except, of course, for console players.
When Does BG3 Release for PlayStation and Xbox?
Baldur's Gate 3 releases on August 3, 2023 for PC players, but PlayStation players have to wait a little bit longer – and Xbox fans even longer still. Currently, Larian Studios plans to release a console version of BG3 for PlayStation 5 on September 6, 2023, more than a month after PC players get their hands on it. It will only be available on the PlayStation 5, so PS4 owners are out of luck.
Similarly, it will only be available for the Xbox Series X|S, and not the Xbox One, when it eventually launches for the system. However, Larian Studios has not yet revealed the launch date of Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox consoles, though it is reportedly in the works. This isn't due to an exclusivity agreement or anything like that – according to studio head Swen Vincke, compromises would have to be made to get the game to work fully on the Xbox Series S, specifically when it came to co-op play.
Baldur's Gate 3 is available in Early Access and will be released fully for PC on August 3, 2023. The PlayStation 5 version will be released on September 6, 2023. A version for Xbox Series X/S is currently in development.
