Tracy Wiles, the actor who plays Jaheira in Baldur’s Gate 3, recently discovered her YouTube account was unceremoniously banned, with little word from the website as to why. Her account closure came with no warning, leaving the Baldur’s Gate 3 actor and her fans confused.
Jaheira is one of the four non-Origin Companions players meet later in Baldur’s Gate 3. The veteran High Harper appeared as one of the first companions players recruit in Baldur’s Gate 1, making her one of the two characters players can recruit in all three games. In Baldur’s Gate 3, she is portrayed by Wiles, who has begun a live playthrough of her own on YouTube and Twitch.
Baldur's Gate 3: Every Character That Can Join Your Camp
Players have the opportunity to recruit several characters to their camp in Baldur's Gate 3.
As reported by TheGamer, On December 5, Wiles discovered her YouTube account had been banned without warning or notice. She was left baffled as to why, and posted about it on her personal Twitter. TeamYouTube, the streaming service’s support account on the social media site, replied saying it was looking into the issue, and nearly a week later, came back saying her account was “linked to a Google account that has an issue.” It has since not elaborated any further, leaving the voice behind Jaheira in Baldur's Gate 3 with more questions than answers.
Originally, Wiles had speculated her account might have been banned simply because she had said the word “sphincter” a lot on stream, as the word is used to describe the doors of the Mind Flayer ship in Baldur's Gate 3. Even so, despite being used in low brow humor, sphincter is a medical term, and would not break any of YouTube's Terms of Service. That, however, has not stopped her fans from affectionately dubbing the scandal “Sphinctergate” on social media–a tag which, alongside #freejaheira, has drawn even more attention to Wiles and her playthrough.
Wiles has since tried to contact YouTube, hoping she can clear up whatever issues are present on the linked Google account and get things back to normal. Hopefully, she will be able to get her YouTube restored soon, but in the meantime, fans can watch Wiles’ playthrough videos on her Twitch account.
During The Game Awards this year, Baldur’s Gate 3 swept the competition, claiming a total of six awards out of its eight nominations, including Game of the Year.
