There are plenty of secrets in Baldur's Gate 3 that players are still discovering, and one of them is the variety of armor and gear you can craft. Infernal Alloy is one of the rarest materials in the game that can only be acquired from an NPC in Grymforge.
Not to be confused with Infernal Iron, which is used to power Karlach's engine in the BG3 storyline, Infernal Alloy is a different material that's used for the Helldusk Armor set. Once you've hijacked a boat and docked in Grymforge, this useful material is only a few steps, and easy dice rolls, away.
Baldur's Gate 3: Where is Dammon the Infernal Mechanic (Act 1, 2, & 3)
Players that are working on Baldur's Gate 3's The Hellion's Heart quest can find details on the location of Dammon, the infernal mechanic, here.
Speak To Stonemaster Kith
A Friendly Face Among The Duergar
As soon as you arrive in Grymforge, you'll be able to walk up the stairs to the right or left. Stonemaster Kith is closer to the top of the stairs on the left. He's standing with another Duergar dwarf by a pile of rubble. Unlike the other residents of the ruined old city, Kith is an amicable gent who doesn't have a problem with surface dwellers.
- Pass Three Dice Rolls. Kith is investigating the local ruins and needs "fresh eyes" to give him a second opinion. Pass a History, Investigation, and Perception check, and he'll give you the Infernal Alloy as a reward.
- Trade. If you don't pass all the dice rolls, you can buy the Infernal Alloy from Kith instead. Prices will vary depending on your Charisma score.
- Loot It. Should you decide that Kith and his companions need to die, you can loot the precious material from his corpse.
Baldur's Gate 3: How to Get To Grymforge
A whole new adventure awaits Baldur's Gate 3 players in Grymforge, assuming they know how to actually reach the place.
Find Dammon In Act 2
Look In The Forge Next To Last Light Inn
If Dammon dies, which is possible if you side with the Goblins and attack the Grove in Act 1, or Isobel is killed or captured in Act 2, he won't be available to craft the Helldusk Armor. It's highly recommended that you speak to Dammon immediately upon arriving at Last Light Inn in case something happens to Isobel during the confrontation with Marcus.
Dammon is located in the Druid Grove for most of Act 1, but once Halsin returns to the Grove, he moves on to the Last Light Inn. This is one of the few safe places in the Shadow-cursed Lands, and our favorite Tiefling blacksmith has taken refuge here along with a few other refugees from Elturel.
One piece of Infernal Alloy is good for three pieces of the Helldusk Armor Set. It's a Rare quality set and some of the best Heavy Armor in the game.
- Speak To Dammon. He's standing by his forge as usual, which also contains a couple of cow stalls. If you have Karlach with you, there will be some extra dialogue where he offers to tune up her engine.
- Choose The Correct Dialogue Options. There are two correct dialogue options you can choose. One mentions "I found this metal in a place called Grymforge," and the other says, "I think I found some material that you can work with."
-
Repeat This Process Three Times. Talk to Dammon three times and he'll make you the Flawed Helldusk Armour, the
Flawed Helldusk Helmet, and the
Flawed Helldusk Gloves
using the Infernal Alloy.
