How to Use the Strange Chunk of Amber in BG3

In BG3, the Strange Chunk of Amber is a misc item that does not have any use in gameplay. It is a poor replica of the Blood of Lathander with none of the ability and a fake meant to fool adventurers looking for the legendary weapon. After picking it up, the character who did so it will comment:

Is this it? Seems a little underwhelming for a holy relic.

And the quest entry for Find the Blood of Lathander quest will be updated with:

A fake artifact in Rosymorn Monastery was disguised as the Blood of Lathander - we should keep looking for the true relic.

Luckily, the puzzle leading to the real deal is directly in front of where players will find the Strange Chunk of Amber in the form of two stone statues facing each other. Solving the statue puzzle will reveal a hidden path leading to the location of the real Blood of Lathander.

Other than this, the Strange Chunk of Amber offers no value and can only be sold to merchants for a sum of 55 gold. This price can fluctuate depending on the character's bartering ability.

How to Get the Strange Chunk of Amber in BG3

The Strange Chunk of Amber can be found inside a Display Case in the Inquisitor's Room in the Rosymorn Monastery in Creche Y'llek in BG3. After entering the Githyanki Creche—either through the secret passage or the main entrance—head north and take the path to the right of the Waypoint. This will lead you to the Captain's Quarters, where Kith'rak Therezzyn will stop you from going further and ask about the artifact you carry. There are three options here:

  1. Give the Artifact: The Captain will try to take control of the device, only for it to return to the player automatically. She will then unlock the door leading to the Inquisitor's Chamber and tell you to meet him in person.
  2. Refuse: If you refuse to hand over the artifact after claiming to have it in your possession, the Captain and her guard dogs will become hostile.
  3. Pickpocket: The key to the locked door is the Gith Shard in the Captain's possession, which can be pickpocketed. Use this item on the Githyanki Barrier Disruptor next to the door, and the Captain will be alerted. However, the Inquisitor on the other side will tell her to calm down and let you through.

Enter the Inquisitor's Room and turn left. There will be a small room with a Display Case in the middle and some chests. Open the Display Case to find the Strange Chunk of Amber alongside the Hoarfrost Boots in the container. This section of the chamber is out of the line of sight of the enemies in the room and can be safely looted while crouching.

Make sure to save before heading into the Inquisitor's Room; there is a meeting with Vlaakith and a tough fight to prepare for.
