Baldur's Gate 3 gives you a stunning amount of choices for an RPG. The gameplay lifted straight from Dungeons & Dragons allows for creative ways to deal with puzzles and combat situations. Jumping is a useful bonus action that every character can use to quickly move through the environment. Laezel even has the Githyanki Psionics: Jump spell that can make characters leap huge distances. Unfortunately, there is also fall damage in Baldur's Gate 3. You have to pay attention when jumping around, as a careless leap or an enemy shove can end badly. There are many ways to avoid its effects through spells and skills.

Fall Damage Explainedbaldur's-gate-3-fall-damage

The game will tell you how much damage you will receive when jumping from high areas. The higher the fall, the worse the damage will be. Falling from certain heights will also make a character go Prone. This means the character will be stunned on the ground temporarily and vulnerable to enemy attacks.

Thief Skills

Any rogues in your party can choose the thief subclass when leveling up. Class level 3 Thief Rogues receive the Second Story Work trait. This is a resistance to falling damage that will make sure they only receive half the damage from a fall.

Grant Flight Spellbaldur's-gate-3-grant-flight-spell-menu

The Grant Flight Spell lets you grant party members the ability to fly. Level 5 sorcerers, warlocks, wizards, and druids can learn this spell from leveling up. Bards that level into the College of Lore subclass can also learn this spell. Flying does not take a bonus action like jumping does and can allow characters to gently descend from higher areas.

Featherfall Spell

The Featherfall Spell is one of the most useful spells in the entire game. It can be learned by Class Level 1 bards, sorcerers, wizards, and sorcerers. There are also Scrolls of Featherfall, but they are rare. Remember that wizards can learn spells directly from scrolls for a price in gold. Mystra's Grace is a pair of boots that grant the ability to cast the spell. These can be found in the Mundane Chest in the Arcane Tower located in the Underdark. The Corvid Token grants a permanent Featherfall effect to its wearer, but can only be purchased from Mattis in Act 3.

How to Use Featherfall Spell

Prepare the spell in the Spellbook or put on Mystra's Grace to gain the spell. Activate it on the Radial Menu or Hotbar to gain the Featherfall effect. The character and surrounding party members will now be free from any fall damage for 10 turns. Be careful when exploring as the effect will only last a few minutes. Use Featherfall to drop large distances and even skip straight to certain sections of Baldur's Gate 3 early.
