Mods are part of what makes Baldur's Gate 3 so interesting and entertaining, especially for players who are participating in multiple playthroughs. Mods enable a deeper level of customization to your Baldur's Gate 3 experience, adding almost anything you can imagine — from extra cosmetic items such as heads, armors, and hairstyles, to altering in-game mechanics and settings such as party restrictions, Spells, Races, and Classes.
However, while mods are a big bonus for most players to enjoy, there are also some drawbacks that can make fans hesitant to try them out. One of the biggest drawbacks to mods is the fact that they often interfere with and disable the ability to earn Achievements during your playthrough. Luckily, as of Patch 7, there is a way that you can bypass this to continue earning Achievements during your next modded run. Find out everything you need to know about how to do so in the guide below.

How To Enable Achievements When Playing With Mods In Baldur's Gate 3
If you've run into the problem of mods affecting your ability to earn Achievements in Baldur's Gate 3, there is a workaround that should fix this. However, this method is only guaranteed to work when you attempt to gain Achievements on new modded campaigns after making these changes. Any modded campaigns that you have begun in the past will sadly have a fifty-fifty chance of whether they will successfully work or not, with some users reporting success — while others are stuck with Achievements remaining blocked.
Here is a step-by-step process on how to enable Achievements when playing with mods in BG3:
- Head over to GitHub and download the latest update of BG3MM.
- Open BG3MM and press the Tools tab. Then, select Download & Extract Script Extender.
- Once this has been completed, click the Settings tab, then select Open Preferences.
- From the Open Preferences menu, select Script Extender.
- You should see an option to toggle Achievements Enabled. Toggle this on, which will be indicated with an X.
- Open Steam and right-click your BG3 game, select Manage, then select Browse Local Files.
- Open the bin folder. Inside this folder, there should be a file named ScriptExtenderSettings.json. If you see this file, everything should be working properly, and you will now be able to launch your game, begin a new playthrough, and test if Achievements are working while mods are enabled.
If you can not see this file, you will need to create it. This can be done with the use of any text editor, such as Notepad or Notepad++. Open the text editor of your choice, then enter the following code:
{
"CreateConsole": true,
"EnableAchievements": true
}
Name and save your file to the BG3 bin folder as ScriptExtenderSettings.json — ensuring the extension is a.json file. You should now be ready to test out if the Achivements are working with your new modded playthrough.
