Larian Studios releases hotfix 23 for Baldur's Gate 3, which aims to continue improving the player's experience by addressing various bugs, crashes, and other oddities. It's been a bitter-sweet week for fans of the massively popular RPG, as Larian Studios boss Swen Vincke confirmed that Baldur's Gate 3 isn't getting any expansions, DLC, or even a sequel. The studio instead intends to move on to new projects, with many speculating that the popular Divinity series could be Larian's focus going forward.
While the surprising news was likely disappointing for many, Larian still intends to support Baldur's Gate 3 with new updates and hotfixes for the time being. There's no word on when that support could end, but for now, the studio continues to release new updates fairly often with even more features reportedly upcoming. Cross-platform mod support remains high on the list for many players, with the assumption that it will be included within Larian's upcoming major update for Baldur's Gate 3. For now though, the studio has released the latest hotfix, a smaller update that addresses many of the remaining bugs and crashes impacting the game.
Major Baldur's Gate 3 Villain Was Once Playable
Larian reveals that one major Baldur's Gate 3 villain was once meant to be a playable character, in addition to disclosing some other cut content.
The latest hotfix, posted to the official Baldur's Gate 3 social media account, largely addresses the various bugs still active within the game. Specifically, there are several bugs within this update that have been negatively impacting commerce within the game, including the proper amounts of gold not being removed from the Trader's inventory as well as other tricks players have found for generating lots of money in Baldur's Gate 3 in ways that Larian likely never intended.
The update also addresses a handful of potential game crashes that could happen when creating a character, saving the game at the wrong time during a conversation, VFX materials loading, as well as one strange incident where a player could sell a container with items in it, buy it back, and then sell it again. Scripting related errors have also been addressed in this hotfix including one related to the clubs inside the Moonrise Towers Prison area in Baldur's Gate 3.
This latest update follows closely on the heels of Hotfix 22, which finally brought parity between all platforms. Prior to Hotfix 22, the Xbox version of Baldur's Gate 3 lagged behind in terms of updates as Larian needed more time to test solutions to crashes that could happen if the game was suspended. However, after the launch of Hotfix 22, Xbox fans are now caught up to the PC and PlayStation specific versions, with upcoming updates as well as Hotfix 23 continuing to maintain that parity for all players.
Possible light spoilers ahead. Beware.
