Baldur's Gate 3 may have been released in August 2023, but the RPG has since received six patches that have implemented various mechanics and changes that players were glad to see included. While the game may not be receiving any DLCs and rarely new content, these patches were still enough to make the improvements Baldur's Gate 3 needed to be a title deserving of being 2023's Game of the Year.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Hidden Secrets In Act 2

There are countless secrets hidden throughout Baldur's Gate 3; here are some players may have missed in Act 2.

With this in mind, these are some of the best improvements that Baldur's Gate 3 has received since its initial release, from ways for players to change their characters after the initial character customization, to accessibility settings to help players who are color-blind.

8 A Variation Of Kisses

Players Can See Multiple Kinds Of Affection

In the sixth patch for Baldur's Gate 3, players were spoiled two days after Valentine's Day when Larian Studios gifted them with an assortment of new kiss animations for every romance in the game. Although for some players, finding someone to share this adventure with may not be so important, others adore the chance of finding the one they love and then being able to romantically interact with them afterward.

During the release of BG3, players only had one kiss to see for each character, one that was altered for each race the player may be playing as. However, now players can look upon the characters with glee at the large assortment of animations the game will display.

7 Honor Mode

A Challenging New Difficulty Gives Players One Chance At Winning

Honor Mode in Baldur’s Gate 3

If some players found the hardest game mode of Tactician to be a walk in the park, then they should be more than ready to try their hand at the later-released game mode known as Honor Mode. In this mode, players are only able to have one save file, meaning if they die, the run is over, and they must try again from the beginning of the game if they hope to reach the credits.

Besides having essentially one life, all the bosses – big or small – have been given legendary actions that add some flavor to their already challenging combat. Succeeding in this mode will reward the player with golden dice to use in their later playthroughs.

6 Magic Mirror In Every Camp

Change How The Player's Character Looks At Anytime

One of the first things to be added through the patches for Baldur's Gate 3 was the Magic Mirror. This is a mirror that can be found in every single camp in BG3, which allows the player to change what their character looks like whenever they rest. However, the Mirror doesn't allow the player to change their character's race, only their appearance.

Minthara, Lae'zel, Exploration
Baldur’s Gate 3: Tricks That Make Paladin The Best Class

Players who get to know the nuances of the Paladin class in Baldur's Gate 3 will be in for a fun time!

They can change pretty much anything that can be seen visually on the character, unless they have done something that permanently changes how they look, such as the hag-eye. This allowed players to make the changes they wanted alongside their adventuring for added story effect, or even just because they had gotten bored with their current hairstyle.

5 Access To Everyone's Inventory

Players No Longer Need To Have Them In The Party

When BG3 was first released, moving items between the different character's inventories was incredibly tedious. This is because the player could only see a character's inventory if they were currently in the main party. Losing weapons became a regular thing, and players would need to dismiss a person to recruit another and check if they had the item the whole time.

Thankfully, during a patch for Baldur's Gate 3, the RPG allowed the player to see everyone's inventory at once as long as they were inside the camp. This meant that players could swap weapons and gear between them, while also searching easily for the things they may have lost.

4 Color-Blind Accessibility Settings

Helps Players Tell The Difference Between Friend And Foe

Accessibility settings in Baldur’s Gate 3

When Baldur's Gate 3 released, the RPG already had a wide variety of accessibility settings to help players create a suitable playing experience for themselves. However, there were still some things missing that players were looking forward to.

One of these examples was an assortment of color-blind modes to help players with various issues they may have had with the pre-set colors. By giving players the selection of protanopia, deuteranopia, and tritanopia, they can change the outlines and markers of their party portraits and characters to help better differentiate between them.

3 Minthara Isn't Just For An Evil Playthrough

Some May Have Never Recruited Her

There are still people that haven't recruited the Drow, known as Minthara. When the game first released, Minthara was a companion that players were unable to recruit unless they chose to attack the Grove, killing both the Druids and the Tiefling Refugees that were there. This also meant players lost both Karlach and Wyll in the process.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Best Subclasses, Ranked

Every class in Baldur's Gate 3 has a variety of subclass choices, and these are the best options players can choose.

However, thanks to recent patches, players no longer need to be so evil and can instead choose to knock Minthara unconscious to see her again in Act Two, and will have the chance to recruit her like normal. While this might not be the best plan for a player trying to romance her, it does mean that players can have every recruitable NPC at once.

2 An Epilogue To Conclude The Story

The Party The Player Deserves

Baldur’s Gate 3: Epilogue

When players first completed Baldur's Gate 3, one of the largest complaints about the game was the rushed ending. Many players felt that after defeating the Elder Brain, just talking to the NPCs once didn't feel like enough of an end. Larian Studios listened to the woes of the player base and came up with a solution in one of the many patches the game has since had.

One of these patches included the Epilogue party that takes place six months after the end of the game. During this party, the player can talk to their past party members and see what they've been up to, as well as there being various letters to read to also find out more about what has been happening in the rest of Baldur's Gate, too.

1 Players Can Swap Party Members Now

No More Dismissing One To Recruit Another

Wyll 8

As mentioned, when BG3 was first released, players were unable to see the inventory of a character unless they were in the party. What made this process even worse was that players had to dismiss a party member before attempting to recruit another, which may have led some players to need to walk across the entirety of the camp just to recruit someone.

Thankfully, in recent patches, players no longer need to dismiss one member of the party to recruit another, as now, when trying to bring someone along, they will ask the player to replace another member of the party with them. This has saved many players from the unnecessary extra steps in camp.
