There is a magic mirror in Baldur's Gate 3 that blocks the entrance to a secret laboratory. The game gives players many choices, so most players may think they can break the mirror or move it. But this situation is a little different. This mirror asks questions and wants some pretty specific answers.

Unfortunately, answering incorrectly can force players to take alternate routes that involve unpleasant decisions. Those who want a clean campaign in Baldur's Gate 3 will want to know the answers the mirror desires instead of guessing and potentially getting locked out of a secret area.

Mirror Answers

  1. Choose 'Tell it your name.'
  2. Choose 'Yes, I'm an ally! I'm an ally of your master's.'
  3. Choose 'Szass Tam is a foul, wretched creature.'
  4. Choose 'To clean a wound?'
  5. Choose 'I'd look for whatever spell would rid me of this worm in my head.'

Within this chamber is a quasit, an evil-aligned familiar companion who will "help" with the quiz answers. However, she mentions that balsam is good for burns and this is not true; balsam cleans wounds. She may be misled, but she will join the party and attack on command.

It's a bit tricky to make her join the party since Shovel is very peculiar about whom to follow. For example, Sorceresses that are not from the Draconic Bloodline scare her, and you might have a hard time convincing her to stay. As you summon her for the first time using the scroll, she'll tell you her name but doesn't sound so excited. You can accept her original name or suggest changing it to Basket, making her happy, or changing it to Fork, making her indifferent. As a last resort, players can also scribe the Scroll of Summon Quasit as a Wizard to gain access to her at all times.

While summoning Shovel as any other class works, it's only temporarily, as the moment she's dead or dismissed, the summon is not possible anymore.

What Happens If You Fail?

If players fails at any question while talking to the mirror, it gets angry and unleashes a sphere that floats around the cave dealing fire damage. This will also destroy the caskets lying around, thus waking up the skeletons and forcing you into a fight. If you have already taken care of the enemies before speaking with the mirror, then you only need to worry about the sphere.

While it is annoying to deal with, Tav doesn't have to worry about the sphere again as it emerges only once and players can easily Go To Camp if they wish to evade it. After that, you are free to repeat the Ornate Mirror quiz to gain entry.

For those who prefer to avoid the quiz answers, it's possible to intimidate the mirror to gain approval from companions like Astarion or destroy it. Keep in mind that you need to deal 22 damage or above to decrease the mirror's health.
