Baldur's Gate 3 has an assortment of named NPCs the player is likely to encounter during their journey through the three acts of the RPG. While some of these NPCs have quickly become fan-favorites for their likable personalities, others have been nothing but frustrating to encounter — either due to their poor decisions or simply because they're annoying to encounter.

While some NPCs in Baldur's Gate 3 are so frustrating that some players in the BG3 community do actually hate them, others are only frustrated due to how much the player cares for their safety. Out of all the NPCs in Baldur's Gate 3 the player can encounter, these are by far the most frustrating of the bunch.
8 Naaber
He's Made To Be Annoying And Does It Very Well
- First Encountered: Act three in Carm's Garms
- A franchise favorite trying to discover his class
Near the start of act three in Baldur's Gate 3, players are likely to encounter the NPC Naaber while inside Carm's Garms. This self-proclaimed adventurer follows the player around both within the store and around the town of Wyrm's Crossing until the player finally talks to him.
Naaber is supposed to be funny, even while being an incredibly frustrating character. As he goes through all the different classes, players can't help feeling a little sorry for him, as they can even kill Naaber without anyone in Wyrm's Crossing caring. Naaber isn't the first like this in the franchise, as every previous title has had an ancestor of Naaber to irritate the player.
7 Society Of Brilliance (All Members)
Blurg Or Omeluum Need A Better Club

It's difficult to choose just one member of the Society of Brilliance as frustrating, as they are all at fault, depending on the choices the player had made in the first act of Baldur's Gate 3. The Society of Brilliance gave the NPC Lady Esther the job of obtaining a Githyanki egg from a creche in the hopes of raising it to not be violent and teaching him morality. However, this doesn't go to plan as the child that is born from the egg isn't taught well by the Society of Brilliance, which leads to the society members all being murdered by the Githyanki. Known as Ptaris after hatching, the newly born Githyanki took morality too literally and viewed the Society of Brilliance as immoral.
Blurg and Omeluum are thankfully not included in this frustration for most players, as both members of the Society of Brilliance tend to keep to themselves. However, if the player did give the Githyanki egg to Lady Esther, they still share the same fate as the other members of the guild. The frustration comes from the Society of Brilliance not understanding how literally the Githyanki, even at birth, take everything. Their fate could have been avoided if they simply hadn't pursued raising a Githyanki — or at least if they'd paid more attention to him.
6 Aradin
Someone Who Doesn't Learn From His Mistakes
- First Encountered: By the gates of the Emerald Grove in act one
- An adventuring group leader looking for the location of the Nightsong
Aradin is likely one of the first NPC that isn't a companion players are likely to meet, and as far as first impressions go, feelings of frustration are rampant from the start. Firstly, Aradin is shown to not care about anyone but himself, as he had abandoned the First Druid (Halsin) when they were attacked by Goblins. He is also shown to be racist towards Tieflings if he survives the encounter by the gates, as well as being incredibly rude to the player when they try to stop a fight from occurring.

This mercenary looking for the Night Song is also shown to never learn, as once you reveal who the Nightsong is, Aradin will come to the player's camp in the third act to kill the player and their companions, only to likely end up dead himself. A fate he likely deserves, but it could've been avoided if he had simply learned from his own mistakes.
5 Kagha
Although She Redeems Herself, It Should've Happened Sooner
- First Encountered: Act one inside the Emerald Grove
- Names herself First Druid after Halsin goes missing
Druids are commonly known for being thoughtful people that protect not only the forest but also the life within it. However, First Druids like Kagha prove that some see outsiders that step foot into the forest to be a threat, with Kagha hoping to banish the Tiefling refugees from the Grove, which essentially dooms them at the hands of the hostile Goblins.
Although Kagha can be shown the error of her ways, she is still an incredibly frustrating character that has allowed herself to be easily manipulated and could've possibly killed a child, depending on the choices the player had made. Not to mention that in some cases, Kagha never changes if players don't reveal the Shadow Druids living among them.
4 Valeria
This Floating Elephant Doesn't Do Her Job
- First Encountered: Act three inside Sharess' Caress
- A Hollyphant detective looking into the murder of a priest
Act three of Baldur's Gate 3 continues to spawn some of the most frustrating characters in the game, with Valeria being another incredibly annoying NPC that players are likely to interact with during the main quest line of BG3. The floating celestial elephant is in fact a detective that has completely written off one of many murders that are currently happening within Baldur's Gate.
Valeria would rather pin the murder of a priest on a refugee seeking shelter than look into how this murder connects to the many others happening within the city. This leads to the player uncovering Orin and also finding that Valeria has gotten herself captured — another frustrating encounter with the elephant. That isn't to say Valeria is completely lost, as giving her the evidence to reopen the case before getting to this point allows her to see the error of her ways, but that doesn't stop her from being an annoyance.
3 Wulbren Bongle
Turning The Deep Gnomes Into The Bad Guys

- The leader of the Ironhand Gnomes, hoping to make a name for themselves
As the leader of the Deep Gnome group, Ironhand Gnomes, it is up to Wulbren Bongle to be the character that the rest of the group looks up to, and also get the Ironhand Gnomes clan spoken about as the creators of countless inventions that the Gondions (another group of Gnomes) have taken credit for. However, from the first meeting with Wulbren in act two, he doesn't appear that thankful for the player's help, while also being cruel to Barcus, another Deep Gnome that risked his life looking for his old friend Wulbren.

The Deep Gnome finally takes it too far in the final act after Wulbren tasks the player with blowing up a factory with the innocent Gondions inside. Wulbren cannot see past his obsession with making the Ironhand Gnomes greater, but this becomes incredibly frustrating as he's going about it the wrong way.
2 Mizora
Players Can Never Kill Her If They Want To Keep Wyll Safe
- First Encountered: Act one in camp
- Wyll's Patron who doesn't want to let him go
Mizora is an NPC that players will never be able to get rid of, whether they like her or not. As the Patron of Wyll, the party's resident Warlock, this Fiend is the reason that Wyll has all of his powers. For the majority of the RPG, Wyll is unable to break free from this contract. The frustration involved with Mizora revolves around being unable to simply end her to free Wyll.
Even when given the chance to kill her in act two, players can't take it as this would risk Wyll being dragged down to Avernus. This is only made worse, as even if players manage to break Mizora's hold on Wyll, she continues to stand around camp and even taunts the player to try to kill her, as she'll only disappear and then come back later.
1 Zanner Toobin
Keeping The Blind Alive On A Battlefield

- One of the Gondion Gnomes that is being kept captive by the Absolute
As mentioned earlier, the Gondions in Baldur's Gate 3 are innocent as they have been manipulated into helping Gortash with the rest of their family being kept in an underwater prison, but that doesn't stop gnomes like Zanner Toobin from being incredibly frustrating to keep alive.
Toobin has been blinded by the absolute cultists, but he still hopes to help the player in destroying the factory that creates the huge Steel Watchers that march through the streets. While his magic is quite powerful, keeping both Toobin and the rest of the Gondions alive is incredibly difficult, with many players needing to restart fights multiple times in the hopes of keeping as many of them alive as possible — especially Zanner Toobin.
