There is a variety of different accessories in Baldur's Gate 3, such as rings and amulets. These items can offer a unique range of perks for certain character builds, so it's definitely worth seeking them out and making the most of the attached abilities by incorporating them into builds for each character or companion. Among these handy accessories is the Caustic Band. This is a unique Ring that enables an equipped character to deal 2 extra Acid Damage each time they make a successful Weapon Attack.

Every little bit of damage goes a long way in Baldur's Gate 3 combat, especially when items such as the Caustic Band allow effects to be stacked with each attack that is made. With the Caustic Band being available in the early stages of the game, players will need to ensure they know how to obtain the item as soon as possible, so they can incorporate it into their builds.

The Caustic Band is an uncommon ring accessory that grants the wielder a passive that enables them to stack 2 extra Acid damage on each successful weapon attack. The Caustic Band is obtainable as early as Act 1, which makes it a great selection for any weapon user in combat throughout the early game, especially the likes of Rogues and Fighters. The Caustic Band can be obtained from the Underdark, so the first thing players will need to do is head into the Underdark through one of the several entrances that are spread throughout the Act 1 map.

Once players arrive at the Underdark, they will need to explore and reach the Myconid Colony, which has approximate map coordinates of X: 95, and Y: -101. Upon reaching the Myconid Colony, there will be a clearing at the coordinates of X: 51, Y: - 96 with a woman, a Deep Rothe, and a few Myconid walking about. The woman in this clearing is a Trader known as Derryth Bonecloak, the individual from whom players may purchase the Caustic Band.

To purchase the Caustic Band from Derryth Bonecloak, walk up to her and initiate conversation. Derryth will then inquire if any party members have seen a man known as Baelen. Once she's done with her explanation of the situation, players will be able to select the 'show me your wares' option, which will open the trading menu. From here, players will be able to trade items for the Caustic Band or purchase it for a price of 68 Gold.

Caustic Band Perk & Best Builds to Equip With

In Baldur's Gate 3, the Caustic Band is a ring of an uncommon rarity that comes paired with a passive ability known as Malefic Excretion. This passive enables the wielder to add 2 extra Acid damage per successful weapon attack, as per the item description below:

Caustic Band:

  • Adjusting this unassuming ring on your finger, you hear a faint sizzle, as of pressure being released.
  • Malefic Excretion: Your weapon attacks also deal 2 Acid damage.

This makes the Caustic Band the perfect accessory to equip with Classes that primarily utilize weapon attacks in combat. Furthermore, Malefic Excretion is even more effective when paired with Classes that can get two attacks per action, or multiple weapon attacks in a single turn, such as Rogues, Fighters, Barbarians, and Paladins. By pairing the Caustic Band with one of those Class Builds, players will be able to ensure that they provide their character with the most chances to trigger the Malefic Excretion effect, stacking more damage that will continue to chip away at enemies in combat and make all the difference in the long run. Here is a summary of some of the best ways the Caustic Band's Malefic Excretion can be triggered more than once in a single round.

  • Rogue - Thief: Thief Rogues gain the benefit of being able to use an extra Bonus Action per turn of combat. If a Thief Rogue is dual-wielding finesse weapons, this means that they will be able to trigger Malefic Excretion three times per round of combat, and the first attack can stack with Sneak Attack. This would ideally play out by the Rogue initiating with Sneak Attack, earning bonus damage from both Sneak Attack and Malefic Excretion, followed by 2x Off-Hand Attacks, which will both also trigger damage from Malefic Excretion.
  • Ranger - Gloom Stalker: Gloom Stalkers are brilliant for ambushing and initiating fights with surprise rounds, giving their party a free round before the enemy can respond. The Caustic Band's Malefic Excretion stacks brilliantly here, as the Gloom Stalker can use the Hide action to hit their first attack, triggering Malefic Excretion and a surprise round. They can then follow up with 2x Ranged Attacks, the extra Dread Ambusher Attack, and then run in to hit an Off-Hand Melee Attack, all of which will combine to trigger the Caustic Band's effects five to six times in the first round of combat.
  • Fighter - Battle Master: Fighters are a tough and reliable melee frontline Class, and the Caustic Band further enhances their already stable and potent damage output. Fighters will get 2x attacks per action each round, and can also use their Action Surge to make another attack once per Short Rest. Malefic Excretion will also stack on any Maneuvers from a Battle Master, making it a valuable addition to this build.
  • Barbarian - Berserker: Berserker Barbarians are very heavy-hitting, especially when paired with the Tavern Brawler Feat and a returning thrown weapon, such as the Returning Pike, or Nyrulna. A low-level Barbarian can easily put out 20-30 damage per attack with this combination, so adding the Caustic Band into the mix only makes them more deadly. Thrown weapons count as weapon attacks, so Berserkers can use the Throw Action twice per round, as well as the Enraged Throw Bonus Action once per round, enabling them to deal three massive hits of damage and trigger Malefic Excretion three times per round.
