While exploring the Shadow-Cursed Lands of Act 2 within Baldur's Gate 3, players will stumble upon an enemy known as the Shadow-Cursed Shambling Mound. This enemy, like many in the area, hides itself as a plant.
Upon finding it, players will need to pass a Perception Check of 30 in order to not be ambushed. Otherwise, the enemy will take the player and their group by surprise, putting them at a disadvantage. Here's how to find and defeat the creature.
Baldur's Gate 3: How the Infernal Legion Effect Works
BG3 has an effect known as the Infernal Legion. Here's what it does and the best way to utilize it.
Where Is The Shadow-Cursed Shambling Mound In BG3?
The Shadow-Cursed Shambling Mound can be found near the Shadowed Battlefield Waypoint, just south of the Last Light Inn (the main area of Act II). As mentioned above, upon finding the creature, players will need to pass a Perception Check if they don't want to be surprised by the entity. It will summon a mob of enemies to fight alongside it, making the failed Perception Check even deadlier than players may originally think.
How To Defeat The Shadow-Cursed Shambling Mound In BG3
Preparing for the battle is just as important as the battle itself. While it can be simple, if players fail the Perception Check, they will automatically lose a whole turn where the creature gets to go, closing in on them. Additionally, the mobs that are summoned are what can truly make or break a player during this fight. There are a few ways that players can go about winning this battle. Here's a breakdown of those methods:
- Players can move their party to the bottom of the nearby steps, forcing all enemies into a choke hold (which is probably the easiest method).
- Push the boss off the ledge using shove and take on the rest of the enemies by themselves.
- Keep everyone away from the Needle Blights and kill one, causing the rest to explode. Then take care of the others before focusing on the boss.
- Use the Needle Blights to kill the Harpers and Vine Blights, meaning players need to just focus on the Shambling Mound (great strategy, but needs perfect timing).
Baldur's Gate 3: How to Hatch the Githyanki Egg
Players can find a Githyanki Egg in the Creche, but they couldn't hatch it until later on. Here's how to make sure it hatches.
Tips For Preparing For The Battle
Here are some tips for starting the battle:
- Make sure someone with high Perception is in the party
-
Enter into stealth before engaging, just in case the Perception Check fails
-
Potion of Invisibility
can also work well here
-
- Consider having a party member with AoE spells (especially Fireball )
-
Think about the enemies (2 Shadow-Cursed Harpers, 6 Shadow-Cursed Needle Blights, 2 Shadow-Cursed Vine Blights, plus the main boss)
- The Needle Blights will explode when killed
-
Come prepared with
Elixir of Health
and an
Elixir of Necrotic Resistance
- Water can also wash off the Digestive Juices, which is what the Elixir is for.
-
Keep in mind there is difficult terrain, so use things that can alleviate that (
Fly, Jump, etc.)
Tips For The Battle Itself
The battle is another difficult part of this. Here's how to deal with it:
- Remember, the Needle Blights will explode upon being killed, meaning one can take out the entire mob and even hurt the Shambling Mound.
- Be sure to keep distance from the enemies, again the Needle Blights can make or break this battle.
- Use the AoE attackers to kill the Needle Blights at the beginng, that way they won't cause issue later on.
- Keep away from the Digestive Juices, as these can kill the party quickly.
