Baldur's Gate 3 is a CRPG that plays similar to the tabletop classic Dungeons and Dragons. Players are likely to find various different sorts of weaponry and armor to equip while adventuring across the three acts of the title. While some of the weaponry players find is likely to be quite common, such as long swords and axes, there are plenty of other variations of weapons to find, too.

Baldur’s Gate 3: 10 Best Upgrades That Are Easy To Miss

Throughout their Baldur's Gate 3 journeys, players will miss countless high-quality upgrades. The following upgrades are the most costly to miss.

One such example of this is tridents. While there are only a few types of tridents to be found, players may find themselves searching for this weapon due to the other abilities it can possess.

4 A Regular Trident

1d6 or 1d8 of Piercing Damage

  • Players are likely to find a regular Trident in multiple different locations, though in act one, the easiest way to get it is either inside the Dank Crypt during the Explore the Ruins quest or purchasing it from Roah Moonglow in the Shattered Sanctum.

Out of the available tridents, the weakest of the bunch is the original regular trident that players are likely to find equipped by enemies, abandoned in dungeons, or sold for cheap by merchants. While this trident isn't completely useless, players are unlikely to use it due to having other weapons commonly equipped at the start of the game that are naturally better than using any trident they are likely to find.

This doesn't make them entirely useless, however. The trident is still a versatile weapon that players may enjoy using one or two-handed. This means it can easily be equipped alongside a shield for added protection, though it will only do 1d6 damage in these situations. Players may still instead gravitate towards spears, though if they are adamant about using tridents, these do the same damage.

3 Trident +1 - Like a Normal Trident, But a Little Better

+1 More Damage than the Regular Trident

A Trident +1 and Dammon in Baldur’s Gate 3
  • The earliest location of the Trident +1 can be found inside the Druid Grove and can be purchased from the Tiefling blacksmith known as Dammon.

Players that are still in the early game of Baldur's Gate 3 don't just have to use a regular old trident, it is possible to purchase an upgraded version that does a little more damage. This trident is known in the game as Trident +1. Players are likely to find other variations of weapons that are even better than the trident during the first act of the game, especially when concerning piercing damage, as there are multiple different spears that have added fun effects to them.

These spears are also throwable and versatile, like the trident, which means they can be held in either one or two hands. Even with this being the case, players who are adamant about using tridents during their playthrough should still purchase this weapon instead of using a regular trident, though they will be waiting a while to find a trident that's better.

2 Trident of the Waves - Hits With the Power of Umberlee

Inflicts Cold Damage and Creates Water on Impact

  • The Trident of the Waves can only be found in Act Three. To find it, a player must unlock the high-security vault yet 4 inside the Counting House.

Moving on from the regular tridents with slightly upgraded damage is the very rare trident that can be found in Act Three while exploring the city of Baldur's Gate. The Trident of the Waves requires players to have access to the secure vaults that can be found underneath the Counting House; players are likely to visit here when searching for the Stone Lord.

With the Trident of the Waves, equipped players will not only do the regular damage of an upgraded trident but also an additional 1d4 of cold damage. Alongside this, the trident also has the ability known as The Water Caller, which produces 2 meters of water when hitting an enemy. Since the trident also does cold damage, it will likely free this water, making it a difficult surface for opponents to walk across.

1 Legendary Nyrulna - The Best of Them All

+3 Damage on Hit and Powerful Thunder Damage Too

Akabi and the trident Nyrulna in Baldur’s Gate 3
  • Players find this legendary trident in Act Three at the Circus of the Last Days. Players must pickpocket the genie, Akabi, to get his ring and then spin the wheel. It can then be found in a chest at the end of the place he teleports the player to.

Out of the four available tridents in Baldur's Gate 3, the best is the legendary trident that many players are likely to have missed during the third and final act of the game. Players will only earn this trident if they manage to beat Akabi's game by stopping him from cheating. With Nyrulna in hand, the player will become unstoppable.

Instead of just doing 1d6 one-handed or 1d8 two-handed, players that stab a foe with Nyrulna will also do an additional 1d6 of thunder damage. Besides this, the legendary trident is brilliant for throwing due to its Zephyr Connection. This means that when it is thrown, it creates an explosion of thunder damage that does between 3-12 thunder damage, and it returns to its handler to be used again.
