Barbarians make for terrific frontline fighters in Baldur's Gate 3. They're naturally durable, and they can deal tons of damage. However, when it comes to finding armor to wear, Barbarians might find a bit of trouble given the nature of the class and the limited selection of stuff early in the game.
Barbarians benefit most from wearing no armor at all. However, this doesn't mean they should charge into battle naked. There are several pieces of clothing and accessories in Baldur's Gate 3 that can make the lives of Barbarians much less painful.
Baldur's Gate 3: All Arcane Acuity Items, Ranked
Arcane Acuity is a very powerful condition in Baldur's Gate 3, providing a stacking buff to Spell Attack Rolls and Spell Save DCs.
While getting extra AC is good for Barbarians, they generally don't need it as much as others thanks to the damage reduction provided by Rage, so don't worry if your AC seems low.
Best Barbarian Armor in BG3 Act 1
- Bloodguzzler's Garb
- Bracers of Defence
- Crusher's Ring
- Ring of Flinging
- Boots of Speed
There are a few things you can get in Act 1 that are perfect for the Barbarian class. Some can be bought from merchants, while most are found via exploration.
Bloodguzzler's Garb
This piece of clothing drops from the Bulette, a creature in the Underdark that likes to tunnel under the ground. You can find one in various locations in the Underdark, including the outer vicinity of the Myconid Colony, the slopes below the Spectator behind the Selunite Outpost, and the Sussur tree's surroundings.
Bloodguzzler's Garb gives its wearer a stack of Wrath when they're hit. Wrath gives the wearer +1 damage to their melee attacks.
Bracers of Defence
Teleport to the Blighted Village and enter the house right next to the waypoint. Behind the counter is a cellar door that leads underground, and in this underground area, there's a hidden path behind some bookshelves that leads to a cave with a magic mirror. Open the path forward through any means, then search for a Gilded Chest in the secret laboratory to find the Bracers of Defence.
The Bracers of Defence gives its wearer +2 to their Armour Class as long as they aren't wearing armor or using shields.
Crusher's Ring
Crusher is a Goblin in the eastern courtyard of the Goblin Camp, near the local area's waypoint. To get his ring, you can either try stealing it during a dialogue interaction, or you can just kill him and loot the ring off his body.
Crusher's Ring increases its wearer's Movement Speed by 3m/10ft, perfect for helping Barbarians close the distance and enter melee range.
Ring of Flinging
This ring increases the damage dealt by thrown weapons/objects when worn. It's a simple yet effective piece of jewelry that's perfect for Berserker or Giant Barbarian builds. To get it, just head over to the Emerald Grove and buy it from Aron, the merchant near the grove's entrance. If you're going for a Throwing build, pair this with the Gloves of Uninhibited Kushigo, which you can get by saving Baelen in the Underdark.
Boots of Speed
The Boots of Speed lets players use the Click Heels bonus action, which increases the wearer's movement speed. This pair of boots can be obtained from Thulla, a gnome in the Underdark's Myconid Colony. If players cure the poison affecting her, she'll give away the boots as a reward. Otherwise, the boots can be stolen from her or looted from her body if she dies.
Baldur's Gate 3: Best Adamantine Items, Ranked
Here's a look at the best gear you can make at the Adamantine Forge in Baldur's Gate 3.
Best Barbarian Armor in BG3 Act 2
- Mighty Cloth
- Cloak of Protection
- Enraging Heart Garb
There aren't as many good options to find in Act 2, but the ones that are available can carry players all the way to the end of the game (unless they choose to pick up something else).
Mighty Cloth
Once you reach Last Light Inn, you can speak with the Quartermaster near the bridge and purchase the Mighty Cloth from her. This piece of clothing gives its wearer a number of bonuses:
- The Bull Rush ability lets users charge forward and possibly knock targets down.
- The Bull's Strength passive gives players +2 to their Strength, provided they don't already have 20 Strength.
- The Unwavering Bull passive prevents users from getting pushed and gives them Advantage on Saving Throws against the Restrain effect.
Cloak of Protection
From the same Quartermaster that sells the Mighty Cloth, you can also buy the Cloak of Protection, which is a sweet and simple piece of clothing that gives +1 to your Armour Class and Saving Throws.
Enraging Heart Garb
The Bugbear merchant in the first floor of Moonrise Towers sells the Enraging Heart Garb, which makes Barbarians gain Wrath for every turn that they are Raging. Additionally, wearers will get +2 to Constitution as long as this stat isn't already at 20.
This is basically a better version of Bloodguzzler's Garb, as it does not require you to get hit. With Enraging Heart equipped, you'll be able to stack AC from other sources and still benefit from the Wrath buff.
