In Baldur’s Gate 3, when players enter Waukeen’s Rest, they’ll notice that it’s been set on fire. They’ll have to rescue the residents of Waukeen’s Rest, one of which is Benryn. Upon reaching Benryn, a quest named Rescue the Trapped Man will start. The objective is to rescue Benryn and find the dowry hidden by his wife, Mirileth.

It may be quite challenging and confusing to get it, so here’s a guide on how to find Benryn and Mirileth’s Dowry in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Benryn

After rescuing Benryn, players will have to find his wife, Mirileth. Fans will see her dead on the second floor of the tavern. Here’s what to do next:

  • Use the Speak with the Dead spell on Mirileth. The spell can also be cast for free using the Amulet of Lost Voices.
  • When used, ask, “Did you have any valuables nearby?” She’ll respond that the dowry is in the barn.
  • Go northwest of the tavern into the barn. The coordinates are X:101 Y:627.
  • Interact with a haystack to reveal a Gilded Chest with the Dowry Ring inside. It’s recommended to use a character with the highest Perception stat in the party, as some characters may not find the chest in the haystack.
  • Speak with Benryn and tell him his wife is dead. While mourning his wife, he will mention the dowry - a ring for Mirileth’s sister’s wedding. Also, he will share how he argued with Mirileth about it the night before the disaster, which made them separate. He’ll ask for the dowry, and it’s up to the players to decide whether he should have it back or not.

Should Players Keep The Ring or Give it to Benryn?

Baldur’s Gate 3: Benryn

Now that the dowry has been acquired, players can either keep the ring or give it back to Benryn. The first option allows players to sell the ring for some gold, while the second one will let them complete the quest, which won’t grant them a reward. Whichever option is chosen won’t have an impact on later story or gameplay.

However, if the ring isn’t returned, the quest will be stacked in the journal, which can be annoying for some players. The price of the ring is really small, so it is recommended to give the ring to Benryn instead of selling it.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
