  • The modding community for Baldur's Gate 3 is thriving, with mods that offer various customization options and gameplay tweaks, such as increasing party limits.
  • While the "all items barrel" mod may be seen as cheating for some players, there are other mods available that enhance the game without taking away the joy of discovery, such as AI-controlled companions and highlighting interactable objects.

Baldur's Gate 3 players have a lot of armor and weapons to collect, and some might find utility in this mod that places a barrel filled with every such item right in their campsite. Some Baldur's Gate 3 items are easy to miss. One example is the Phalar Aluve, a sword that appears to be analagous to the legendary Excalibur in that it is found stuck in a stone and requires the player to meet certain conditions to retrieve it.

While the game has scarcely been out for a few weeks, Baldur's Gate 3 has already developed a healthy modding community. There are all kinds of mods from those that give players more options when customizing their characters to others that alter the gameplay in various ways, like increasing the multiplayer party limit or increasing the rate at which players earn experience points. Another mod lets players re-enable achievements after the game disables them when mods are detected.

The All Items Barrel mod gives players access to all the weapons and armor in Baldur's Gate 3 and is available on NexusMods. After following the instructions on the mod page players will be able to loot a barrel at the wilderness campsite and extract any item they wish, however doing so does come with certain risks. The mod has "sanitized" some of the items, but using the barrel can result in some of the quests being broken. It is recommended that players make a backup of their save file before meddling with this potentially game-breaking barrel.

This type of mod might feel like using a cheat code and take the fun out of exploring Baldur's Gate 3 for some players . Thankfully, there are other mods that players can use without feeling a pang of guilt and ruining the excitement of discovering the game for themselves; one such mod lets AI control the player's companions and automates exploration to a degree. Another mod lets AI take control in combat, potentially making Baldur's Gate 3 a little more accessible to players who are unfamiliar with games based on the Dungeons and Dragons mechanics.

The creator of the "all items barrel" mod, who goes by the name Mph on NexusMods, has acknowledged that the name is slightly misleading since the barrel only contains weapons and armor. Mph goes on to say that they will possibly add other usable items in split barrels "maybe later." Players looking for a way to discover items more easily in Baldur's Gate 3 without feeling like they are cheating may benefit from using another mod that simply highlights objects that they can interact with.

Baldur's Gate 3 is available now on PC, with a PS5 version coming out on September 6 and an Xbox version also in development.
