While discussing his enthusiasm for Helldivers 2, award-winning actor Neil Newbon expressed that he would love to cameo as a voice in the hit game. Newbon is known best for playing the role of Astarion in Baldur's Gate 3 and took home the award for Best Performance at The Game Awards in 2023. The actor makes frequent appearances at fan conventions and streams regularly on Twitch, where he has been known to play Helldivers 2 quite often.
Helldivers 2 is a third-person co-op shooter where players fight off the tyranny of aliens in the name of protecting Super Earth and spreading democracy. The game was released as a console exclusive for PlayStation 5 and courted controversy when Sony forced PC players to create PlayStation accounts after they'd already purchased the game. The shooter has been a breakout success for Arrowhead Game Studios, selling over 12 million copies in its first 12 weeks on the market. Helldivers 2 has also been nominated in several categories at The Game Awards 2024, including Best Multiplayer Game and Best Ongoing Game.
In a recent interview clip posted on Twitter by GamesRadar+, the actor gushed about his love of Helldivers 2 and said he would love to cameo in the hit game. Newbon expressed that he would be willing to simply scream for an hour in a voice booth if the developers would use it. He even joked about the idea of using his Astarion voice to dramatic effect while yelling. While Newbon acknowledged that he couldn't truly bring the voice of Astarion to the game, he has previously noted how important the Baldur's Gate 3 character is to him and his career.
Newbon Isn’t Writing off Helldivers 2 or Baldur’s Gate
In addition to wishing for a role in Helldivers 2, Newbon has said he would be willing to reprise his role from Baldur's Gate 3. While this is something many fans would love to see, Larian Studios has declared that it is done with Baldur's Gate 3 and any potential sequels to instead move forward with its own projects. Time will tell if the characters of Baldur's Gate 3 return without the influence and writing of Larian.
Many fans find it endearing when an actor or celebrity turns out to be a big fan of something themselves. While there's certainly no guarantee, it's possible players could one day hear the voice of Newbon yelling in the name of democracy. Arrowhead has gained attention for listening to its community in the past, even when it comes to adding more customization to Helldivers 2. If the fanbase were to get behind the idea of hearing the voice of Astarion in the game, Arrowhead might just make it happen.
