How to Open the Sand Sea Ruins Secret Door in Avowed

Expect to come across several hidden rooms and secret switches while exploring the Living Lands in Avowed. These often contain hidden treasure chests and valuable items to help the Envoy grow richer and stronger. Sand Sea Ruins, one of the many dungeons in Avowed, contains quite a few of these secret rooms, the last of which proves a bit challenging because its switch is quite cleverly hidden. Try as you might, you will never find the hidden switch to unlock it. You will get a chance to explore these ancient ruins during the Heart of Valor quest in Shatterscrap. Here is how you can open that door to claim an important treasure tied to the Heart of Valor quest in Avowed.

How to Open the Secret Door Behind the Heart of the Leviathan in Avowed

Avowed - Secret Door Outline and Cable — The secret door behind the Heart of the Leviathan in Avowed.

At the end of the Sand Sea Ruins dungeon, right after beating a ferocious bear and escaping more deadly traps, you will finally come across the Heart of the Leviathan resting on an altar. Your quest objective will update, asking you to return to Keipo with the Heart of the Leviathan. Take the item, but do not exit the dungeon just yet, or you will lose the chance to obtain a unique armor set in Avowed.

Look closely, and you will notice the faint outline of a hidden door etched into the wall directly behind the Heart of the Leviathan. A cable is also running along the ground, but it only leads to a dark, inaccessible room. Exploring the other side of the altar will not help either. There seems to be no hidden switch waiting to be discovered.

So, is that outline just a cruel tease? Actually, no. There is indeed a hidden room behind the altar, and it holds an important item related to the Heart of Valor questline in Avowed.

The switch you are searching for lies right behind the altar in Avowed. Just ignore the cables on the ground and check the backside of the left tooth-like pillar, as shown in the image below. The hidden switch is located at the top of the pillar.

The secret room contains the Weathered Journal, which reveals the truth about Keipo. He is not the hero everyone believes he is. The journal reveals that it was someone named Umpara who defeated the Leviathan, and Keipo has just been lying to everyone in Thirdborn.

Getting the Weathered Journal opens up new dialogues with Keipo and Chiko. Now that you know the truth, it becomes easier to give the Heart of the Leviathan to Chiko instead. This will reward you with the complete Stormdancer set, including armor and accessories.

Giving the Heart of the Leviathan to Keipo rewards you with Umpara's Spear, one of the best unique spears you can get in Shatterscarp.

Other Secret Doors in Sand Sea Ruins

There are at least two more secret doors inside the Sand Sea Ruins. These are easier to open compared to the one behind the Heart of the Leviathan in Avowed. However, just in case some players are finding it tricky, here is how to open them as well.

Secret Door Opposite the Large Statue: In the main flooded chamber, swim over and climb the stairs on the left to find a secret door. This area will be opposite to the large statue. The switch you are looking for is on the wall to the left of the door, in the middle of a triangular diagram.

Secret Door With Two Switches: Climb up the wooden platforms above the flooded chamber and make your way left. Keep going and you will come across another secret door. This one, however, has two switches, one on each side of the door. Hit the switch on the left to open the hidden room.
