The Avengers: Secret Wars cast is expected to feature several Marvel characters from films that pre-date the MCU. Now, a new rumor claims two fan-favorite heroes will be forced to fight each other.

Avengers: Secret Wars is the closing chapter of Marvel Studios' Multiverse Saga. Based on two comic book storylines of the same name, Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to feature characters from pre-MCU films, including Sony's Spider-Man movies and Fox's X-Men movies. Of course, several MCU characters will unite for the event film, and Tom Holland's Spider-Man is expected to be a key player in the ensemble cast. Unfortunately, a new rumor claims Holland's Spider-Man will be forced to fight two allies who helped him in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Notable scooper MyTimetoShineHello claims Holland's Spider-Man will be "forced to face off against" Tobey Maguire and/or Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man in Avengers: Secret Wars. Comic book readers may not be surprised by this news. In the first Secret Wars comic, an entity known as the Beyonder summons a group of Marvel heroes and villains to the Battleword to force them into battle. While this clash was intended to be a showdown between good and evil, factions were formed. For example, the X-Men broke away from Captain America's faction because Magneto was included in the "heroes" team. Marvel Studios' Avengers: Secret Wars will likely take creative liberties with the source material. But if MyTimetoShineHello's information is correct, Holland's Spider-Man, Maguire's web-slinger and Garfield's wall-crawler may find themselves in different factions.

This showdown would be heartbreaking for most fans to witness. Spider-Man: No Way Home united Holland's Peter Parker with Maguire and Andrew Garield's versions after they were transported to the MCU due to Doctor Strange's botched spell. Fans loved the camaraderie between the three Spider-Men, as Maguire and Garfield's version served as mentors to Holland's Peter Parker in his time of need. Spider-Man 4 plot rumors claim Maguire or Garfield's Spider-Man could reunite with Holland's web-slinger, meaning their relationship would only deepen once Avengers: Secret Wars unfolds.

Of course, fans should take any Avengers: Secret Wars rumors with a grain of salt. Avengers: Doomsday filming isn't scheduled until next year, so even if Secret Wars rumors are true now, they could always change once production on the latter begins. Fans know with some certainty that Marvel Studios will likely attempt to end the Multiverse Saga on a high note. The MCU has experienced a low point in recent years, with multiple films underperforming at the box office and with critics. The Multiverse Saga is largely seen as a bust, but perhaps Avengers: Secret Wars can positively conclude this chapter of the MCU.

Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 7, 2027.
