A double feature of new Avengers movies has been confirmed ever since Marvel Studios’ Comic-Con panel in 2022. At the time, the Multiverse Saga was centered around the Marvel villain Kang the Conqueror, with the fifth Avengers film gaining the subtitle Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and the sixth named Avengers: Secret Wars. However, after Kang actor Jonathan Majors was arrested on assault charges, Marvel chose to shift direction away from his character. At Comic-Con in 2024, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed that Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo would return to helm Avengers 5, which was retitled Avengers: Doomsday.
Filming Start Date For Avengers 5 Revealed
While there are still several Marvel movies set to release before Avengers 5, new details about the filming schedule for the movie have been revealed. Speaking to Collider at New York Comic-Con, the Russo brothers confirmed that Avengers: Doomsday will begin filming in Spring 2025. The script is being written by the Russo brothers' regular collaborator Stephen McFeely. Additionally, the directing duo confirmed that the two upcoming Avengers films would not be filmed back-to-back like Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame were. “These are not as separated as you would normally separate two films of this scale, but they're more substantially separated [than Infinity War and Endgame] by a year or so,” Anthony Russo explained.

The release dates for Marvel's next two Avengers films are scheduled as follows:
- Avengers: Doomsday: May 1, 2026
- Avengers: Secret Wars: May 7, 2027.
With production for Avengers: Doomsday starting in Spring 2025, that will give the film around 12 months to complete filming, undertake any reshoots, and move through post-production to meet its 2026 release date. It's likely the Russo's will also move into filming on the sixth Avengers movie during that time, making it a packed schedule for the duo.
The Marvel Studios panel at San Diego Comic-Con came with some substantial reveals about Avengers: Doomsday, including that the overall villain would be Doctor Doom, who will be played by none other than Marvel’s original superhero, Robert Downey Jr.(Known for his role as Iron Man). During the panel, the Russo's shared their intention for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars to “create the greatest possible experience that we can all have together in a movie theater.”
Alongside Robert Downey Jr., the only confirmed cast for the fifth Avengers film is the Fantastic Four quadrant, comprised of Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Marvel’s first superhero family will hit the screen in their solo film, Fantastic Four, which is scheduled to release on July 25, 2025. As Victor von Doom is a notable Fantastic Four villain, rumor has it that Downey Jr. May make his return before Avengers 5 in that 2025 film.
