Avatar: Fire and Ash is finally out in theaters to conclude the events from The Way of Water. The latest film from Cameron picks up right where the second Avatar film left off. The Sully family is still mourning the loss of Neteyam, and while the young Na'vi's soul is with Eywa, the family can't seem to get over his death.
But of course, Sully and his family had much bigger things to worry about in Fire and Ash. Miles Quaritch is doing everything in his power to catch Jake Sully because this guy just doesn't know when to give up. And now, there's the Ash Na'vi people who are throwing their hatred into the mix. Jake Sully does win the fight by the end, like every other good guy in every other movie. And sure, Sully's win was predictable; however, the ending of Fire and Ash does catch viewers off guard with some amazing twists.
Avatar 3 Official Runtime Explained: How Long Is Fire And Ash?
The runtime for Avatar: Fire and Ash has been confirmed, and as expected, it's the longest in the series so far.
Kiri Takes The Lead In The Battle in Avatar: Fire And Ash
Fans Also Learn The Truth About Kiri's Birth
Ever since Kiri was introduced in Avatar: The Way of Water, fans have wondered how exactly she was born. We all know that Grace wasn't pregnant at the time she died. So, how exactly did Kiri come into the picture? Well, Fire and Ash confirms that Kiri was born without a biological father.
Apparently, when the Na'vi tried to resurrect Grace in her clone body at the Spirit Tree, Eywa herself planted a seed inside of Grace's body. It would be safe to say that Kiri is, in fact, Eywa's child; she's the Chosen One. This is precisely why Kiri is able to connect with the plant life on Pandora like no other Na'vi. Even the greatest tsahìks on Pandora are astonished by Kiri's connection to Eywa.
Kiri realizes very soon that the Flora and Fauna on Pandora call on to her. For instance, in The Way of Water, Kiri controls the daisy anemone underwater to save herself from some of Qauritch's men. She never tried it before, but when facing death, Kiri just knew that it was possible. Similarly, in Fire and Ash, Kiri uses her bond with Eywa to save Spider, who couldn't breathe Pandora's air. Kiri didn't even know if that was possible, but for some reason, the Mycelium itself makes Kiri change Spider's biology. In short, while every other Na'vi reaches out to Eywa, the collective consciousness of Pandora itself reaches out to Kiri. It's basically like the plant and animal life of Pandora can sense that Kiri is part of Eywa.
Kiri's Seizures In Avatar Are A Result of Consciousness Overload
She Must Get Stronger To Tap Into Eywa's Vast Consciousness
Now that we know Kiri is Eywa's child (sort of), it's normal to wonder why she has a hard time reaching out to Eywa. Even Kiri thinks that Eywa has been pushing her away. Well, that's not it. Interestingly, when Kiri reaches out to Eywa to connect with her, she is also connected to the entire collective consciousness of Pandora. It's the sudden burst of energy that triggers Kiri's seizures. Kiri is still young and not ready to handle such pressure, so she overloads her system whenever she connects to Eywa.
Eywa chose Kiri for a reason, but she has yet to grow stronger to finally learn what the Great Mother wants from her. But it's clear that Kiri holds a little of Eywa's powers in herself. We know that Eywa can control the entire animal and plant life on Pandora, as she did in the first Avatar movie and Fire and Ash. And Kiri can do the same, but on a much, much smaller level. But obviously, after seeing the face of Eywa, Kiri does level up by the end of Fire and Ash. That is why she was able to overpower Varang, the leader of the morally grey Ash people, in the final sequence. At that moment, Kiri's voice also changed, and it was almost like she was carrying the voice of Eywa herself.
What Does Eywa Want With Kiri In Avatar?
Kiri Might Be Eywa's True Avatar
Well, that's the million-dollar question right now: Why exactly did Eywa plant a seed inside Grace to give birth to Kiri? Honestly, we'd have to wait for Avatar 4 and 5 to get a concrete answer. However, if you look at the true meaning of Avatar, you might get a hint. Apparently, the word Avatar originates from Hindu mythology. Avatar basically means the descendant or the manifestation of a deity. Now, if you connect it to Kiri and Eywa, it's safe to say that while all Na'vi are Eywa's children, Kiri might be the true "Avatar" of Eywa.
Eywa, being a deity, can't (or won't) ever come forward in her true physical form. However, given Pandora's current situation and the threat of the Sky people, Eywa needs someone to save her people. She can't control the plants and animals of the moon every time, so Eywa has decided to descend to Pandora through Kiri. Interestingly, if this story is correct, Kiri might be more than just Eywa's child; she could be Eywa's voice on Pandora.
