About Rhenn Taguiam
Rhenn is a Manila-based content writer with a love for all things geek and pop culture, and science and technology. He graduated BA Journalism degree as a Cum Laude, and has since then pursued making content about geek culture.
Rhenn used to write for a couple of geek and gaming publications, and also served as editor-in-chief for Philippines-based What's A Geek!. He constantly plays video games but also takes the time to try out older titles. If he's not playing video games, he's probably playing TTRPGs.
Favorite Games
The sheer depth of tabletop continues to mesmerize Rhenn as a gamer, be it as a Dragonborn Paladin in fantasy worlds in Dungeons & Dragons or as a Tremere within the World of Darkness in Vampire: The Masquerade. However, a few video games do stand out when expanding his horizons across genres. He also appreciates the impact of immersion through storytelling and player choice, with both the gameplay and story of Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Baldur's Gate 3 adding to his perspective on the growing evolution of RPGs and gaming at large.
Industry Focus
Since entering the realm of professional journalistic writing, Rhenn's focus as a video game journalist is tied to his interests in RPGs, the occasional FPS, as well as AAA experienes. Moreover, lore and stories always fascinated Rhenn as an aspiring creative writer, with the writer often finding himself invested in the way characters evolve with a game's universe and story as much as how mechanics pave the way for an enjoyable experience.
Favorite Console
The advent of console gaming has become a godsend for Rhenn, as these helped him realize at such an early age how powerhouse titles aren't always built with groundbreaking visuals and processing requirements. While he has a reliable gaming laptop today that supports professional ghost-hunting with friends in Phasmophobia alongside the occasional Spike defusals in Valorant, Rhenn has a soft-spot for his handhelds. The Nintendo Switch has become a recent favorite when it comes to a refreshing gaming session during breaks, especially with titles such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons, among others. While he currently eyes a Steam Deck for a handheld PC experience, he's always admired how the PlayStation Portable pulled off classics such as Persona 3 Portable, Fate/EXTRA and Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions.
