About Marc Joseph Hill

Your resident gaming masochist, Marc fell in love with Sekiro and never looked back. But Star Wars The Old Republic dominated his childhood, instilling a profound love for RPGs and storytelling. Following a few years as a software engineer in the civil service, he left to pursue writing full-time and landed here, publishing hundreds of articles over the past year.

With thousands of hours dedicated to punishing challenges (don't talk to me about that damn Moon Berry) Marc now writes on them and those to come. When not stubbornly bashing his head against a boss, he can be found thinking about stubbornly bashing his head against a boss or even playing the piano.

Outside of FromSoftware and Soulslike adoration, Marc takes a keen interest in the wider gaming industry. With crippling layoffs sweeping studios of all sizes, it is difficult to not be disheartened, even after playing a brilliantly innovative indie or THAT section from Alan Wake 2. However, despite worrying consolidation, the (losing) fight to preserve physical media, and in-game monetisation becoming ever more out of control, the experiences that gaming can provide remain second to none. That is what keeps Marc so deeply invested in a hobby-turned-career that shaped his life.

Industry Focus

Soulslikes, RPGs, ostensibly challenging experiences, and the industry at large. Always looking to play something new, preferably single-player - you can blame my completionist tendencies for that.

Favorite Games

After reading about me you would rightly assume Sekiro or SWTOR to be the answer to this question but it will in fact go to Disco Elysium and Outer Wilds. Honorable mention for Hi-Fi Rush; just play it. Seriously, play all three.

Proudest Gaming Achievement

Well, getting the Moon Berry in Celeste felt incredible, as did the Madman achievement for The Witcher 2 (with those hitboxes? Categorically insane but I loved it regardless). Nonetheless, my proudest moments have been introducing friends to video games; getting them hooked on soundtracks and witnessing their slack jaws as my Tarnished battled dragons - unbeatable memories.
