About James Maddox

James has been gaming for as long as he can remember, from conquering the world in Civilization or blowing up worlds in Stellaris to getting sucked into yet another grind on either version of Runescape. When he isn't cooking sharks in Varrock or planning his next galactic invasion, he can be found reading novels (and sometimes trying to write one) or watching janky science fiction shows from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s.

He received an MFA in Creative Writing in 2021, focusing on short fiction. Since then, he's worked in academic publishing and spent some time working as the editor/writer for a literary zine. He is interested in how video games tell stories, as well as the way they provide spaces for players to tell stories of their own.

His favorite games include Garfield Kart: Furious Racing (yes, really), FTL: Faster Than Light, Kerbal Space Program, Mount & Blade: Warband, and Xenonauts.
