Attack on Titan was one of the biggest anime and manga series of the last two decades and a sensation that contributed greatly to making anime as mainstream as it is today. Sadly, its manga concluded in 2021, with its anime following soon after in 2023. With the end of the anime in 2023, Attack on Titan returned with a movie, titled Attack on Titan: The Last Attack. This movie didn't exactly offer brand new content to the fans. Instead, it brings to the theatrical screen the last few episodes of the anime.

Nevertheless, this movie was so big that it's still getting re-releases, and that goes to show the incredible popularity of the series. Recently, the movie was remastered for theaters, but more interestingly, it received a new post credit that has revealed some major information on various characters. Finally, years after the ending of the manga, Mikasa’s husband is finally confirmed as Jean, and fans definitely have mixed feelings about this.

Attack on Titan has become, over the years, one of the best-selling manga of all time. This character would be irrelevant and simply someone to pair up Mikasa with after the events of the war. Another popular theory existed and was built on a major ship for Mikasa. That theory stated that Mikasa actually ended up marrying Jean Kirstein. This definitely fueled some heated debates as Jean and Mikasa were a popular ship, but nowhere near as popular as that of Eren and Mikasa. In that sense, many hoped that it wasn’t true.

After years of mystery concerning who Mikasa's husband is, fans finally got the answer through a rather unexpected way. With the re-release Attack on Titan: The Last Attack, a movie that covers the final events of the anime, fans finally know who Mikasa's husband is.

It has been confirmed now that following the death of Eren and the end of the conflict, Mikasa ended up marrying none other than Jean. Many fans expected this outcome but some others are displeased with this plot point. However, it's definitely not surprising, as ever since Jean met Mikasa, he held a huge crush on her.

Isayama Left Mikasa’s Husband Ambiguous In the Manga

While the post-credits scene of Attack on Titan: The Last Attack has confirmed who Mikasa's husband is, some fans refuse to accept this as canon. Technically, this post credit was not written by Isayama, the creator of Attack on Titan. To some fans, it's almost like the studio is making assumptions about whom Mikasa ended up with, and they would prefer a direct confirmation from the author himself.

However, that is unlikely to ever happen as Isayama has stopped really working on Attack on Titan. Isayama has previously said that the anime is the true version of his work. It is highly likely that Isayama has conveyed to the studio that Jean was Mikasa's husband all along. For a studio to make assumptions on such a thing is impossible, and while it might give comfort to some shippers to know that this was written by Isayama, it is more than certainly canon.

Revealing that Mikasa ended up with Jean would have caused major discourse and possibly even anger towards Isayama himself. The confirmation from the Post Credit remains the closest thing to the truth that fans have.

What Content Will Attack on Titan Get After The Latest Re-Release?

Fans of Attack on Titan are always glad to receive new content or even just new information about their favorite series. After all, since the franchise's end, new reveals have become rather scarce. Even the new movie fans received was just a compilation and didn't offer anything special aside from some extra animated scenes.

Sadly, at the moment, Attack on Titan does not have any future projects in the works. No new anime adaptation has been confirmed, and all that's available is the TV anime and movie.

When it comes to the manga department, the same thing holds true. Isayama recently said that he has no plans to return to Attack on Titan and that he has already poured everything he had into his original manga. At the moment, the Attack on Titan franchise is well and truly at its end.
