Throughout Atomfall you will come across several terminals, machines, and unpowered facilities that can only be brought back online with an Atomic Battery. In Atomfall, Atomic Batteries can be found throughout every region in the game, and it's a good idea to collect lots of these early so you can power up important endgame facilities, like the Interchange and its Central Processor.
Atomfall: 8 Combat Tips
These Atomfall combat tips will help you survive the game's brutal combat and gain the upper hand against hostiles in the dangerous Quarantine Zone.
To find Atomic Batteries, Atomfall players must look in trader inventories, pay attention to Leads that mention Atomic Battery locations, and destroy B.A.R.D. Robots – a task easier said than done. Follow this guide to learn where to find more than a dozen Atomic Batteries in Atomfall throughout all five major regions.
This list of all Atomic Battery locations in Atomfall will be updated with more locations as we discover where to find other Atomic Batteries throughout the game.
What Are Atomic Batteries Used For?
In Atomfall, Atomic Batteries are a source of massive energy generation, used to power some of the game's most energy-hungry facilities and machines. Throughout the game, particularly throughout The Interchange, you will discover unpowered areas tied to a nearby power slot. Put an Atomic Battery into these slots to bring each associated facility or machine back online.
You need a total of four Atomic Batteries to re-power the Interchange, but there are several other locations where you can use Atomic Batteries to re-activate unpowered facilities and machines, especially in some of the final areas of the game.
Some Atomfall endings require you to slot Atomic Batteries into machines that can only be accessed after powering the Interchange, so be sure to collect and store them with Pneumatic Tubes to withdraw when needed at a later time. These Tubes tend to appear conveniently near locations where key items are required to progress.
You can also use Atomic Batteries to re-activate downed B.A.R.D. Robots. Powering up a deactivated robot with an Atomic Battery for the first time will unlock the 'Batteries Not Included' achievement.
Atomic Battery Locations In Atomfall Regions
Where To Find Atomic Batteries In Atomfall
There are at least ten Atomic Batteries that players can naturally find throughout the world of Atomfall from specific locations in each of the five main areas, or via Barter with the game's many Trader NPCs. Additionally, defeating any B.A.R.D. Robot will reward an Atomic Battery, but you have to be fast.
Atomfall: How Long To Beat
The time it takes to beat Atomfall varies greatly depending on your decisions and approach to this open-ended survival RPG.
Only five Atomic Batteries are required to unlock the path to the end of the game, so players don't necessarily need to find every Atomic Battery location. But knowing where to find Atomic Batteries will make life easier as you will be able to quickly build up a store of Batteries to slot into unpowered devices when required.
Slatten Dale Atomic Batteries
The only Atomic Battery location in Slatten Dale is in Molly the Tinker's bartering inventory. Molly can be found to the east of the Wyndham Village entrance from Slatten Dale, in the far north of this starting zone. Look for her trading camp on a hill by the Wyndham Village wall above the small pond (close to where you can find the Metal Detector on a body).
Wyndham Village Atomic Batteries
- Atomic Battery 1: In the possession of Vicar McHenry himself – there are two methods to get this Atomic Battery. You can either kill the Vicar to get the Vicar's Key, or use information you gather from villagers and notes you find Wyndham Village against him. Either way, once you have the Vicar's Key, proceed to the second level of the church to find a chest with an Atomic Battery.
- Atomic Battery 2: After completing Alf Buckshaw's messages Lead, return to Wyndham Village after some time to find that the villagers have destroyed a B.A.R.D. Robot right outside the Little Tea Room. You can loot this robot's Atomic Battery.
Casterfell Woods Atomic Batteries
- Atomic Battery 1: Once you reach Casterfell Woods, you can find one Atomic Battery deep beneath the Druid Castle, in the Castle Ruins. The High Priestess of the Druids can be seen holding up this battery above a pit filled with technological offerings – kill her and loot it from her body.
- Atomic Battery 2: Another Atomic Battery is located within the electrified substation at Casterfell Dam. You will have to turn off the power and deactivate the electric fence to access this fenced-in area. Look for the battery by a skeleton inside.
- Atomic Battery 3: The trader Billy Gorse has one Atomic Battery in his inventory. Look for Billy Gorse just southeast of Casterfell Dam, south of the Old Mine where Mother Jago is located.
Atomfall: Difficulty Settings, Explained
Atomfall doesn't use traditional difficulty settings, but that leaves a lot of flexibility for players to curate their own experience.
Skethermoor Atomic Batteries
- Atomic Battery 1: Find Nora Thorndike in her barn in the north of Skethermoor. This Trader has an Atomic Battery in her inventory, along with a variety of useful healing items and gear, like Sticky Grenades.
- Atomic Battery 2: Travel northwest from Nora's Barn and the Brinsop Manor and you will come across a downed, sparking B.A.R.D. Robot. Walk up to the robot, and stand on its body to avoid the leeches, to pull the Atomic Battery out of its back.
- Atomic Battery 3: Head to the Protocol Vehicle Storage bunker on the east side of Skethermoor, but be careful. If you aren't fully trusted by Protocol, the soldiers in here will shoot you on site. You can find an Atomic Battery in a B.A.R.D. Crate within this bunker.
The Interchange Atomic Battery Locations
In the Interchange, Atomic Batteries are scarce. One battery is being held by a dead scientist directly beneath the Central Processor power board. The first time you get to The Interchange and enter the Central Processor, look for this glowing battery lying beside the dead scientist.
Other Atomic Batteries in The Interchange can be looted from defeated B.A.R.D Robots, of which there are several to be found. There is one just outside of Robotics, for example, and three patrolling an area deep within the Windscale Plant itself.
Get Atomic Batteries From Certain Traders
Atomic Batteries Are Valuable – Bring High-Value Items To Barter
There are a handful of Traders in Atomfall that will offer an Atomic Battery amongst their wares. These tend to be very expensive items, so you will need to trade other high-value items to make your offering match its value. Guns (especially Stock and Pristine guns) and crafting recipes (that you have already learned) are great items to trade for an Atomic Battery.
Atomic Batteries are very, very high-value items. If you have a lot of extra Atomic Batteries that you are sure you don't need, consider using them in trade to gain a huge advantage when Bartering. If you need the Battery back later on, the Trader will still have it in their inventory (if you don't kill them, that is).
Not every Atomfall Trader NPC will have an Atomic Battery in their inventory, but a surprisingly large number of them do. Traders who have an Atomic Battery for sale include:
- Molly the Tinker (in northwest Slatten Dale)
- Billy Gorse (in north Casterfell Woods)
- Nora Thorndike (in her barn in north Skethermoor)

The infection that's spread across the quarantine zone of Atomfall can be deadly. Here's how to cure it.
Atomic Batteries Power B.A.R.D Robots
Defeat Any B.A.R.D. Robot To Get An Atomic Battery – But It's Tough
The first time you enter Wyndham Village, you will see a gigantic B.A.R.D. Robot patrolling around the central green. This robot, and every other B.A.R.D. Robot in Atomfall, is powered by an Atomic Battery. Deal enough damage to a B.A.R.D Robot, and it will temporarily shut down.
When it is in a dormant state, quickly run to the back of the robot to pull out its Atomic Battery. It will become fully deactivated, and you'll get an Atomic Battery in your backpack (if you have space).
There are two types of B.A.R.D. Robots: one wields a machine gun and has a protected head sensor, the other wields a flamethrower and has three fuel tanks attached to its back and gun.
- To destroy the machine gun B.A.R.D. Robots, shoot its sensor array repeatedly to break the glass and damage its internal mechanisms. This will cause it to overheat and shut down.
- To destroy the flamethrower B.A.R.D. Robots, you must shoot the petrol canisters repeatedly until the robot overheats and shuts down to cool off. Focus the two on its back, and not the one attached to its gun, to quickly overheat and disable these robots.
