Atlus is commemorating the first anniversary of Metaphor: ReFantazio with a special event on October 10. While the company has yet to disclose full details of the livestream, it has shared a teaser that could be hinting at a new version of Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Metaphor: ReFantazio Releases New Update for January 2025

With a 93 average score and 98% reviewer recommendation rate on OpenCritic, Metaphor: ReFantazio is one of the highest-rated games of 2024. The JRPG also generated significant early commercial momentum, selling 1 million copies in its first 24 hours, thus setting the record for Atlus's biggest-ever day-one launch. As of June 2025, its lifetime sales tally sits at 2 million.

Metaphor: ReFantazio 1st Anniversary Event Announced for October 10

Atlus will be commemorating the first anniversary of Metaphor: ReFantazio's critically acclaimed release with a dedicated livestream, scheduled to take place this Friday, October 10, beginning at 9pm PT. The Japanese developer hasn't shared much about the event itself, apart from teasing a "special message" to be played during the broadcast. Representatives of Studio Zero, the Atlus division that made Metaphor: ReFantazio, are expected to make an appearance during the livestream.

Atlus Possibly Teasing Metaphor: ReFantazio Nintendo Switch 2 Port

Throughout 2025, multiple leakers have claimed that a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Metaphor: ReFantazio is only a question of time. The game's anniversary stream could offer a high-profile opportunity for Atlus to announce such a port—if it is indeed in the works. Alternatively, the "special message" teased by the company could be DLC-related. An enhanced edition is also a possibility, though it appears significantly less likely. While Atlus has a long history of expanding its games in this way, it has recently moved away from the practice, as highlighted by Persona 3 Reload, which did not receive an enhanced edition.

Atlus has already started supporting Nintendo's latest hybrid console, having previously announced the Switch 2 version of Persona 3 Reload, which is scheduled for an October 23 launch. Even though the Sega-owned studio often works on multiple games in parallel, it has historically avoided releasing titles too close together. Therefore, even if a Metaphor: ReFantazio Switch 2 version does get announced on October 10, it seems unlikely to hit the market immediately, with a launch around spring 2026 appearing more plausible.

Looking further ahead, Atlus recently announced Persona 4 Revival with a brief June 2025 teaser that suggested the remake is still in an early phase of development, thus unlikely to materialize for another several years. The studio is also believed to have been working on Persona 6 since at least July 2021, when a job listing mentioning the much-anticipated next installment in the franchise was spotted online. Persona 6 could therefore be closer to release than the Persona 4 remake, despite the latter being announced first.
