Summary

  • While the PlayStation 5 exclusive Astro Bot won't be coming to the PlayStation VR2, it may come to PC in the future.
  • Team Asobi studio director Nicolas Doucet asks players who want the title to come to PC to be more vocal.
  • Astro Bot will be released for PS5 on September 6.

A top executive from PlayStation Studios' Team Asobi, the developer of Astro Bot, has advised PC gamers who want to play the upcoming title to be more vocal. Astro Bot is set to be released on the PS5 on September 6.

Announced at Sony's May 2024 State of Play, Astro Bot is the next entry in Team Asobi's series of 3D platformers exclusive to PlayStation consoles. With its launch approaching, the creative director of Astro Bot revealed more information about the project and even gave a statement to PC gamers who may want to try out the unique action title in the future.

Team Asobi studio director Nicolas Doucet noted in a recently uploaded interview with media outlet MinnMax that the developer would love to hear from PC players who are eager to play Astro Bot someday. "We want to hear from you. Absolutely. We want to hear from you," Doucet, previously the president of Sony's now-defunct Japan Studio, claimed nearly three minutes into the interview.

Will Astro Bot Come to PC?

  • Astro Bot is currently a PS5 exclusive, but developer Team Asobi is open to hearing from PC gamers.

The Team Asobi head disclosed many interesting details regarding Astro Bot and its development during the interview. According to Doucet, Sony's Santa Monica Studio was the most thrilled to have one of their game characters featured in Astro Bot. Kratos, the main protagonist of the studio's long-running God of War franchise, is among the 150 cameos set to appear in Astro Bot, alongside other popular PlayStation mascots like Aloy from Guerrilla Games' Horizon and Nathan Drake from Naughty Dog's Uncharted. There will also be characters from properties not handled by a first-party PlayStation studio, such as Joker from Persona 5, Ryu from Street Fighter, and Kazuma Kiryu from the Yakuza/Like a Dragon franchise.

In his interview with MinnMax, Doucet went on record to state that Astro Bot would never come to the PlayStation VR2 as the platformer was designed for a different medium. The PS VR2 received official PC support on August 7, but owners of the headset need a $59.99 adapter to use the feature. Sony added PC compatibility after it was reported that the company halted production of the virtual reality headset, which came out in February 2023.

The predecessor of Astro Bot, Astro's Playroom, was essentially a tech demo for the PS5's DualSense controller that came pre-installed on every console. Widely praised by critics for its gameplay, variety, and visuals, the 2020 title was the last game released by Japan Studio before the developer was dissolved a year later.
