Assassin's Creed Valhalla's announcement came and went with a flurry of activity at the start of May. While the game's gameplay debuted during Microsoft's Inside Xbox event may have been underwhelming, Ubisoft has still provided a lot for Assassin's Creed fans to unpack. One important detail left out, however, is Assassin's Creed Valhalla's release date, as exactly when the game will launch remains a mystery. If a new Amazon Italy release date is to be believed, however, the surprise may be spoiled.
Recently Amazon Italy updated its profile for Assassin's Creed Valahalla's Xbox One release. The update, which appears to be the formal and official pre-order listing for the game, changed its release date to October 15. The listing was quickly altered so that the release date showed December 31 instead, a default release date for games confirmed for 2020 launches.
An October 15 launch would put Assassin's Creed Valhalla's launch prior to the likely November release of either the PS5 or Xbox Series X. That's in line with Ubisoft's language about the game's release, as it's known that Assassin's Creed Valhalla will have Smart Delivery on Xbox Series X. That means that those who purchase the Xbox One version of the game will receive a free upgrade for the next-gen console.
It's also noteworthy that both Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Assassin's Creed Origins, Valhalla's two predecessors, both released in October. To be fair, Odyssey launched in early October and Origins in late, but October nonetheless. However, both games were launched on a Friday. October 15 in 2020 will be a Thursday.
The launch day being a Thursday instead of a Friday isn't the only reason not to believe this rumor, of course. Retail listings, particularly in Europe, are rarely reliable. They can often be altered by third-parties or Amazon employees without oversight. That this listing appears to be the official one for Assassin's Creed Valhalla does lend it some credence, but not much.
Ultimately, Assassin's Creed Valhalla is probably going to launch in October. Whether it's October 15 or another date is certainly worth questioning. And as a result, this leak is highly unreliable. Considering the COVID-19 pandemic could through off retail shipping even going into the late fall, release dates are all the more suspect. Ubisoft will make Assassin's Creed Valhalla's release date official as it's able.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla releases later this year on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
