For the second week in a row, Assassin's Creed Shadows has reached the number one spot on the UK's physical game sales chart. Despite a rocky lead-up to its launch, Assassin's Creed Shadows has proven to be a much-needed success for Ubisoft, with sales trending upwards globally since its March 20 release.
Since the early days of the franchise, fans have been eager to get their hands on an Assassin's Creed title set in Japan. After multiple delays and its fair share of controversy, Assassin's Creed Shadows was released to largely positive reviews and managed to beat the launch day player counts of both Origins and Odyssey. The development team has promised to continue releasing updates and helpful patches for the title, with the game's first expansion, Claws of Awaji, scheduled to release later in 2025. While digital sales have become the standard across most regions, many players in one area have opted to snag physical copies of Ubisoft's newest title.
Assassin's Creed Shadows Players Are Missing Some Features From Prior Games
Some Assassin's Creed Shadows players are missing a handful of features that were present in prior entries in Ubisoft's franchise.
As reported by Push Square, Assassin's Creed Shadows took the top spot on the UK's latest physical game sales chart, with 84 percent of copies being sold for PlayStation 5. The action adventure title has been doing incredibly well in the UK, selling more physical copies in one week than Star Wars Outlaws did in three months and even beating Capcom's current juggernaut Monster Hunter Wilds. Some other new releases also reported strong physical sales, with the Soulslike title The First Berserker: Khazan in sixth place and Rebellion Developments' Atomfall rising through the ranks to reach second place mere days after its launch on March 27. It's unclear whether Assassin's Creed Shadows can hold onto its lead for yet another week, but Ubisoft is likely pleased with the game's showing so far.

A week after its release, Ubisoft announced that Assassin's Creed Shadows had surpassed three million players, also noting that the title had pulled in the second-highest day-one sales in the franchise's history, just behind Valhalla. Shadows also marked the biggest Ubisoft day-one launch on the PlayStation Store. More comprehensive sales figures for the game likely won't be revealed until Ubisoft releases its next quarterly financial report.
While multiple pieces of post-launch content are likely on the way, players have already received their first glimpse at the Claws of Awaji DLC, which promises a spookier tone when compared to the base game. The expansion will be free for players who pre-ordered Assassin's Creed Shadows and will take place after the main story, adding 10 additional hours of content along with some new weapons for the game's main characters.
