Summary

  • Players are largely satisfied with Assassin's Creed Shadows but desire improvements such as hiding weapons, returning the "Follow Path" mount feature, and faster animations.
  • Players also wanted to see NPCs react to rainy weather, a quicker way to access Eagle Vision, and the addition of some minigames.

Around a week after the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, players have already compiled a list of features they would like to see added by Ubisoft, in a bid to bring improvements to gameplay and tailor the shinobi and samurai roleplaying experience. Despite highlighting some areas that could be elevated, the Assassin’s Creed Shadows community is largely happy with this entry’s mechanics, enjoying their time exploring the vast, picturesque open world while thwarting Oda Nobunaga’s forces.

The action RPG serves as the 14th main entry in the greater Assassin’s Creed franchise and features dual protagonists, the shinobi Naoe and samurai Yasuke, who navigate a series of historical events to tell their own stories while honoring many of the franchise’s classic mechanics. Despite the controversy surrounding the title before its launch, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is getting positive reviews from Japanese critics, praising the protagonists alongside Ubisoft’s arresting depiction of Feudal Japan.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Strikes a Good Balance With Its Hidden Blade

The Hidden Blade is a staple feature of the Assassin's Creed franchise, and Assassin's Creed Shadows finally strikes a good balance with it.

Posted on Reddit by AssassinsCrypt, a question was presented to the community on the Assassin’s Creed subreddit, asking which new features and improvements players would like to see added, joining Assassin’s Creed Shadows players’ call for the ink filter to be added as a new feature. The original poster noted the game was already “terrific,” after logging 15 hours, but wanted the ability to hide weapons (especially Yasuke’s giant bow), the “Follow Path” mount feature to return, and a faster Sell/Dismantle animation to be considered for an upcoming patch.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Players Name Several Features They Want in Gameplay

Luckily, players got what they asked for when Assassin’s Creed Shadows debuted with a comprehensive photo mode, supporting fans’ desire to document their travels across Japan’s beautiful landscape. Still, a few hundred fans were mulling over more ideas. One player wanted to be able to meditate or sleep until nighttime rolled around, similar to past entries, as Naoe would likely opt to infiltrate certain areas in darkness, thus adding to the roleplaying experience. Another Redditor wanted to see NPCs react to rainy weather, a quicker way to access Eagle Vision, and the addition of some minigames, following the successful features in games like Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Star Wars Outlaws.

Thanks to players’ feedback, Ubisoft will fix the frame rate issue in Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Hideout in an upcoming patch. The dip in frame rate is a noticeable concern when the protagonists enter the base, compared to the rest of the title’s mostly seamless gameplay. Additionally, the developer will address other issues affecting Naoe's inconsistent Shinobi Bell, make changes to Yasuke's Teppo skill tree, and fix several quest-orientated glitches.
