Summary
- A fan of Assassin's Creed Shadows visited Japan to compare in-game locations like Osaka Castle to their real-life counterparts.
- Ubisoft's attention to detail in creating iconic structures in Assassin's Creed games is impressive.
An Assassin's Creed Shadows fan online is visiting various places across Japan to compare how the in-game locations hold up to their real-life inspirations. Their first Assassin's Creed Shadows location is Osaka Castle, with even more to come.
The locations in the Assassin's Creed franchise have always strived for a strong sense of historical accuracy, and this is especially true of the large iconic structures featured in the games. There was even a point when it seemed like Assassin's Creed Unity could have helped to rebuild Notre Dame after its 2019 fire, such was Ubisoft's attention to detail in creating the cathedral for the game. This has always been one of the most captivating elements of Assassin's Creed, seeing these iconic buildings up close and comparing them to their real-life equivalents.
Assassin's Creed Shadows Mod Makes It Look More Like Ghost of Tsushima
An Assassin's Creed Shadows player releases one of the title's very first mods, which aims to make the game look more like Ghost of Tsushima.
Now, with Assassin's Creed Shadows released to positive reviews, one Redditor has taken it upon themselves to head to Japan to compare in-game locations with their real-life equivalents. First up is Osaka Castle, which was built around the period Assassin's Creed Shadows is set. This is visible in-game, with various areas of the castle still under construction, showcasing great attention to detail. Redditor GenericReditUserName took pictures of the castle from numerous angles in real life and in-game, putting them side-by-side for comparison.
Assassin's Creed Shadows vs. Real Life Osaka Castle Compared
It's very impressive work from Ubisoft, especially in how the surrounding areas of Osaka Castle remain similar to how they are in real life. Of course, there are some changes after over 400 years, but it's instantly recognizable as Osaka Castle in-game. Many of the castle fortifications that are present in the game are gone, but traces remain in real life thanks to their stone bases. It's awesome to see how Ubisoft has gone about creating Assassin's Creed Shadows' setting in Japan, and it'll be cool to see where else in the game GenericReditUserName will choose to compare next.
With Assassin's Creed Shadows already passing several impressive player-count milestones, it seems Ubisoft has stuck the landing with this one. After several tough releases of late, Ubisoft needed a win with Assassin's Creed Shadows, even delaying the game several times to ensure it got it right. Hopefully, it's a sign of more good things to come for the franchise.
