Assassin’s Creed Shadows might soon be welcoming a major feature long absent from the franchise, as datamined information regarding multiplayer was recently found in the game’s files. If Assassin’s Creed Shadows is indeed getting multiplayer in future updates, this would let players experience feudal Japan together and mark the return of PvP in the series after nearly a decade.
Released in March 2025, Assassin’s Creed Shadows takes the long-running franchise to feudal Japan by following the intertwined stories of Naoe and Yasuke. Both characters have a different playstyle, with Naoe relying more on stealth and Yasuke on his brute force. Assassin’s Creed Shadows saw over a million players on release day, with fans praising its focus on stealth and exploration compared to previous installments in the series. Ubisoft recently teased that a major announcement for Assassin’s Creed Shadows would be revealed on April 30, and rumors have begun to grow regarding the game's upcoming content.
Assassin's Creed Shadows Naoe Perk is a 'Must Have'
Assassin's Creed Shadows players are noticing a special perk for Naoe that could be a major help for locating enemies and hidden treasures.
Recent evidence from data miners points to the possibility of multiplayer functionality being added to Assassin’s Creed Shadows. A modder known as Sliderv2 found mentions of “multiplayer,” “PvP,” and “PvP maps” in the game’s files, hinting at the return of multiplayer in the Assassin’s Creed series. While this datamined information might just be the result of tests made during Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ development, it could also mean that players may soon be able to team up to complete missions together or fight against other players online in PvP matches.
Assassin's Creed Shadows Might Get Co-op and PvP
If Assassin’s Creed Shadows does reintroduce multiplayer, it would mark the first return of this feature in nearly a decade. The franchise last supported multiplayer in Assassin’s Creed Unity, which allowed up to 4 players to engage in co-op missions. The last time players were able to fight against each other was in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, which boasted dedicated PvP modes. While these features were popular among players, they were phased out in later titles that focused only on the solo experience.
However, the teased announcement might not be about multiplayer at all. Ubisoft is also preparing to release Claws of Awaji, the first major DLC for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This expansion will take players to the island of Awaji, a mysterious zone to explore while avoiding the traps set by a new enemy faction. Claws of Awaji will also introduce a new weapon type for Naoe, as well as additional skills, gear, and abilities. This DLC for Assassin’s Creed Shadows doesn’t have an exact release date yet, but it will come out in 2025.
