Assassin's Creed Shadows has turned into a massive success for Ubisoft, registering day-one sales numbers that nearly top the list of games in the action-adventure franchise. According to newly released information, only one game in the series has sold more copies than Assassin's Creed Shadows by its launch date.
It has been nearly eight weeks since the official release of Assassin's Creed Shadows on March 20. The 14th mainline game in the franchise has already done a lot to stand out from the rest of the pack, with its feudal Japanese setting and dual protagonists, and it has garnered generally favorable reviews from professional critics.
Assassin's Creed Shadows is Crossing Over With Dead by Daylight
Assassin's Creed Shadows surprises fans by announcing that it will soon be crossing over with the popular horror game Dead by Daylight.
Those impressions apparently translated well into good early sales numbers, as a press release from Ubisoft states that only Assassin's Creed Valhalla outpaced Shadows in terms of launch-day sales. In addition to that figure, the game has racked up some other impressive statistics, which include setting the record for day-one sales on PlayStation's digital storefront and a log of more than 160 million hours played. Those numbers may not surprise fans who have been following the game's success, as a report from the beginning of April revealed that Assassin's Creed Shadows was one of the best-selling games of 2025, falling in second only to Monster Hunter Wilds after the end of the year's first three months. Other reports have shown the game continuing to stay atop sales charts in the United States after its first three weeks from release.
Assassin's Creed Shadows Marks Impressive Sales for Ubisoft

Ubisoft doesn't seem to be done capitalizing on the game's past success, either. The Claws of Awaji DLC planned for release later this year will provide a post-game tale that many fans hope will tie up some loose ends left by the main game's story. There's still plenty left to be revealed about everything coming in the DLC expansion, but information released from Ubisoft so far indicates that Naoe and Yasuke will travel to an island beyond Osaka Bay, seeking out a lost treasure and facing new foes.
Likely before fans get a taste of Claws of Awaji, there is still plenty of upcoming content lined up in Assassin's Creed Shadows' post-launch road map. A recent update has been praised for its realistic adjustments to the game's parkour system, and additional improvements are planned for late May, including height-gaining back and side ejects and a vertical ledge jump feature. Updates planned for June include the addition of a new ally and quest, difficulty settings, immersion options, and an open-world alarm system.
