Assassin's Creed Red is one of many upcoming releases for the franchise, finally taking the IP to the long-awaited setting of Japan. The title's setting has already created a huge amount of interest in the project, especially with many leaks and rumors surfacing online.
A recent leak for Assassin's Creed Red alleges that the title has a release window of 2024, with this being welcome news to many fans. However, when considering the other current projects that are ongoing within the Assassin's Creed franchise, this supposed release window seems like an unlikely one.
The Other Assassin's Creed Projects
It is a very exciting time to be a fan of the Assassin's Creed franchise, with the IP being set to receive a huge range of installments in the near future. For example, Assassin's Creed Mirage is set to launch on October 12, reportedly taking the franchise back to its smaller-scale roots.
As well as this, the mysterious upcoming Assassin's Creed Hexe is drawing a lot of attention, in addition to the large-scale mobile game Assassin's Creed Jade. With additional VR titles, Netflix gaming collaborations, and reported standalone multiplayer projects further bolstering the franchise's upcoming releases, it is clear that Ubisoft is very busy behind the scenes with one of its most iconic IPs.
This also comes at a time when Ubisoft is releasing details of Assassin's Creed Infinity, which is set up to be the go-to live-service hub for AC experiences going forward. It is currently perhaps the busiest period that Assassin's Creed has ever experienced, with Ubisoft creating titles catered towards the newer open-world RPG identity of the IP as well as those that go back to the franchise's roots. With so much happening at once, it seems hard to believe that some of these most detailed projects, like Red, will be released so soon.
Assassin's Creed Red's Leaked Release Window
Assassin's Creed Red is set to possess the same open-world RPG elements of recent AC titles such as Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla. Being set in feudal Japan, rumors suggest that Red will allow the player to choose between a Samurai or Shinobi protagonist, offering a range of narrative threads to experience.
With Red also being rumored to be the last title featuring the open-world identity, it can be assumed its scale is quite impressive as the send-off game for the formula. A Japanese setting such as Red's has been one of the most intensely demanded from the community, further increasing the attention to detail that Ubisoft should be placing on the release.
A lot of Ubisoft's effort will be currently going into the inbound AC Mirage, with the title seemingly taking a more character-driven approach with protagonist Basim Ibn-Ishaq. With this in mind, it seems very unlikely that AC Red will release in its supposed window of 2024. As so many projects are also beng worked on currently, combining with the imminent release of Mirage, it would be sensible to assume that AC Red would need more time to develop and would miss a potential 2024 release window.
If Ubisoft is hoping to shrewdly space apart its upcoming projects to give them time to shine, then this leaked release window may tread on the toes of AC Mirage quite significantly. As things stand, the amount of other AC titles and the scale of Assassin's Creed Red means that a release window of 2024 is hard to see as a valid one.
Assassin's Creed Red is currently in development.
