While fans are eagerly awaiting updates on several Assassin's Creed projects in development, the wait for the next title Assassin's Creed Mirage may be the most excruciating, and that could be longer than originally anticipated. Not only is it highly anticipated because of its return-to-roots approach to stealth, assassinations, and parkour, but because it focuses on Basim's past and story, who is one of the most popular characters from Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
Even before it was officially revealed, Assassin's Creed Mirage was billed as a classic, smaller-scope action-adventure title focused on Basim (back when it was only rumors associated with codename Assassin's Creed Rift). However, just because it is a smaller scope doesn't make its development any "easier," as game development is a beast regardless of the size of the project.
Because of this, recent rumors via Insider Gaming and its sources stating that the game has been internally delayed twice does not come as a surprise. It should be noted that the first Assassin's Creed Mirage trailer revealed a window of 2023 but nothing else in this regard, with there being a few indications that it was slated for early next year. These two delays, according to Insider Gaming, has seen the game pushed back to August 2023, with a non-zero chance of another internal delay pushing it back to November. These delays, of course, would never be publicly announced since its official release date has never been confirmed.
The silver lining here is that, while still unconfirmed, it could give fans some realistic expectations as to when to expect Assassin's Creed Mirage' s release. Insider Gaming's sources was unable to say why the game was internally delayed twice, but Insider Gaming speculates that it could be due to hardware limitations and the ongoing development across various platforms and generations. Given several games have faced this issue over the past couple of years, with Marvel's Midnight Suns even delaying its PS4, Switch, and Xbox One release due to similar complications, this is yet another surprise.
Still, fans should treat this with a grain of salt. As this information does not come directly from Ubisoft itself, fans should wait on the company to confirm anything regarding Assassin's Creed Mirage's release date before jumping the gun.
