The potential release date and other vital details of Ubisoft's upcoming Assassin's Creed Mirage have possibly leaked online. Assassin's Creed Mirage has been rumored to have experienced a recent internal delay as it seems production on the title may have hit some speed bumps. With the past three Assassin's Creed titles growing larger in size and more complex in their RPG-style design and mechanics, many fans of the franchise have been longing for a smaller scale, more stealth focused Assassin's Creed experience reminiscent of the early games. Assassin's Creed Mirage is looking to provide that for fans, letting players explore 9th century Baghdad as Basim Ibn Ishaq, a master Assassin first introduced in Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Mirage is just one of many Assassin's Creed projects in development at Ubisoft like the Japan-set Codename Red and the darker Codename Hexe, among others. With Assassin's Creed Mirage the most imminent of them all, fans have been wondering when they'll be able to learn more about the franchise's potential return to its roots. On Twitter, Idle Sloth pointed to a nearly 20-minute YouTube video that has been uploaded by Assassin's Creed insider j0nathan. In the video, j0nathan reveals that Ubisoft is aiming for an October 12 Mirage release date but states that it could be pushed to November. This is very much in-line with the franchise's history, as pretty much all major Assassin's Creed titles have released in either October or November.
The video goes on to explain how Assassin's Creed Mirage is dramatically smaller in size and scope than some of the latest major titles in the franchise. The map will feature the city of Baghdad and some surrounding areas, and the skill tree will offer players around 15 skills and abilities. Additionally, according to j0nathan, there will only be four main assassination targets. For perspective, the original Assassin's Creed back in 2007 featured nine. Speaking of, fans of the earlier games will be pleased to learn that Mirage is rumored to be focusing on classic Assassin's Creed stealth mechanics like eavesdropping and tailing targets. Taking fans' feedback into account even further, j0nathan says that sequences and cutscenes set in the modern day will be limited as well.
Assassin's Creed Mirage has been touted as a much smaller experience compared to the gargantuan, 100+ hour game worlds of Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Valhalla. This new information from j0nathan makes it seem like Mirage may be even smaller than expected, which isn't too surprising considering the game was originally conceptualized as DLC for Valhalla. Nevertheless, fans won't have to wait long to see if these rumors are true, as it's very likely that Assassin's Creed Mirage will be present at next month's Ubisoft Forward on June 12.
Assassin's Creed Mirage is in development for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
