Even more circumstantial evidence pointing to the possibility of Ubisoft remaking Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag has surfaced online, this time via some publicly available repository data. Although multiple sources have so far pointed to the project's existence, the timing of a potential reveal remains unclear as of today, four months ahead of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag's 12th anniversary.

Widely regarded as one of the best Assassin's Creed games ever made, Black Flag was reportedly greenlit for a remake in the early 2020s. While the first report testifying to the project's existence dates back to 2023, corroborating evidence only started piling up a year later.

Continuing this trend, the Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag Steam repository recently saw some activity that could be taken as a sign of ongoing development work. As noted by Twitter user TheRealZephryss, Ubisoft updated the game's page on Valve’s storefront with four new versions of a single gameplay "microtrailer" that plays by default when the listing is opened from a client, such as a browser or the Steam app. Repository updates of this nature are uncommon for 12-year-old games, implying the change may signal more than a routine update to outdated promotional materials. According to data scraped by SteamDB, Ubisoft also recently modified several of the game’s Steam content packages—on June 4 and 12—though the details of those changes remain undisclosed.

This turn of events arrives just a few months after Canadian collectible manufacturer PureArts hinted at the existence of an Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag remake. "There’s going to be something going on with [the AC4 protagonist] Edward," a company representative said during a stream dedicated to new Assassin's Creed figures. For context, PureArts is a long-time Ubisoft partner that has created limited-edition collectibles based on a wide variety of its games, including every mainline entry in the Assassin's Creed series.

According to an October 2024 report by Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson, Ubisoft was initially planning to release the Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag remake in late 2025, most likely in the November slot. However, the timeline was pushed back following the initial delay of Assassin's Creed Shadows. Given that all the postponements for Shadows amounted to only a few months in total, the Black Flag remake could still reach the market in a similar window—possibly as early as the first half of 2026.

If that were the plan, the upcoming late August 2025 edition of Gamescom could serve as a well-timed opportunity to officially reveal the game. However, Ubisoft has traditionally preferred announcing new Assassin's Creed entries at their own dedicated events. Given that track record, if the Black Flag remake is set to appear at Gamescom 2025, it would likely be officially revealed ahead of the event.
