Summary
- The rumored remake of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag has reportedly been internally delayed.
- Black Flag's remake was supposedly scheduled for November 2025.
- Assassin's Creed Shadow's delay has affected the series' entire roadmap, a new report suggests.
A new report suggests that Ubisoft was originally targeting a November 2025 release for the rumored remake of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, but that may no longer be the case following the recent delay of Assassin's Creed Shadows. Often considered to be one of the greatest in the series, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag is heavily rumored to be receiving the remake treatment, with an industry insider claiming to have already seen work-in-progress gameplay.
The next Assassin's Creed game was supposed to be hitting PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on November 15, but Ubisoft delayed Assassin's Creed Shadows back in September, with the series' first highly-anticipated venture into feudal Japan now targeting a February 14, 2025 release date. Unfortunately, as disappointing as Shadow's delay is, there could be more bad news as an insider claims that this decision has affected the entire pipeline of new Assassin's Creed games.
With Assassin's Creed Shadows now contributing to 2025's stacked releases, fans of the series likely weren't expecting to receive another Assassin's Creed game to release so soon after. Well, according to a new report from Insider Gaming, Ubisoft originally intended to launch Assassin's Creed Shadows in November 2024, followed by a remake of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag just one year later, in November 2025. However, despite the fact that the remake is supposedly "well into development," the recent delay of Shadows has reportedly pushed back many other titles in the series, including the remake of Black Flag.
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake Possibly Moved Past 2025
Rumors of an Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag remake first surfaced in June 2023, when a report from Kotaku claimed that the project had just been greenlit at Ubisoft. Considering the remake was supposedly in the incredibly early stages of development when the report surfaced, it was suggested that the title would still be a few years away. And with a great number of other Assassin's Creed titles already confirmed by Ubisoft, it seemed like a potential remake of Black Flag would still be some ways off.
Insider Gaming's report goes on to state that Ubisoft is planning to ramp up its Assassin's Creed releases, with a total of ten different titles set to launch within the next five years. While this will include larger, mainline games like Assassin's Creed Shadows, it will also include smaller titles, such as the mobile release of Assassin's Creed Jade, which is rumored to be eyeing a Q2 2025 release. But an internal email seen by Insider Gaming says that Shadow's delay "will also impact the rest of the Assassin's Creed roadmap," which means the Black Flag remake, Codename Jade, and Codename Invictus (which will be a multiplayer-focused Assassin's Creed game), are all now likely coming later than expected.
