At launch, Assassin's Creed Shadows features fewer bugs and glitches than most other modern-day releases, but that's not to say that it doesn't still have its fair share of problems. One of the worst glitches in the game makes it impossible for players to save their progress manually and completely disables the autosave.
AC Shadows: 'Equipping Gear Is Currently Restricted' - What Does This Mean?
Here are all the situations where players might encounter this message, along with explanations and solutions for each in AC Shadows.
Those affected will be faced with a message that reads, "Saving is currently not allowed because of gameplay context(s). Try again under different conditions." When they attempt to save the game. Ubisoft has yet to acknowledge the issue directly, but there's thankfully a way for Assassin's Creed Shadows players to force the game to save while they wait for a more permanent solution.
How to Fix Saving is Currently Not Allowed Because of Gameplay Context(s) Error in Assassin's Creed Shadows
For players experiencing the "Saving is currently not allowed" error, the only way to get the game to save is to enter build mode at the hideout and make a change. This doesn't fix the issue entirely, as affected players still won't be able to use the manual save option, but they can at least use this trick to trigger autosaves while they wait for Ubisoft to patch out the problem. Some players may be able to fix the issue entirely by taking control of a boat and then getting off it again, but there's no guarantee that this will work.
Players may see the "Saving is currently not allowed because of gameplay context(s)" message temporarily if they attempt to save while they're in combat or when they're riding a horse or boat. In these instances, becoming anonymous again or getting off the horse or boat should reenable saving.
What Causes the Saving is Currently Not Allowed Because of Gameplay Context(s) Error in Assassin's Creed Shadows?
The "Saving is currently not allowed" glitch seems to be caused by getting off a rideable boat in a way that the game does not expect. This could be by crashing the boat into a structure or by using the grappling hook from its deck, both of which can lead to the game thinking that the player is still on the boat. Just as it is while they're in combat, saving is disabled while players are riding a boat, which is presumably what leads to the error.
