Development images from Aspyr's Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake have appeared on the internet after being shared by an artist who worked for the developer. This leak gives a glimpse into what Aspyr's Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake could have been like had it not been canceled and moved to a new studio.

Star Wars KOTOR Remake Revan and Malak Update

While the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic has made its way to modern consoles by way of ports, fans were very excited to learn that a full remake was in development was announced in 2021. However, the hype was shot down fairly quickly, as in 2022, developer Aspyr canned the game's art director and design director, and ended up being removed from the project later that year. The remake was handed to Saber Interactive, but nothing major regarding the project has been revealed.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Assets Revealed

Now, a number of development images from the original Aspyr remake of Knights of the Old Republic have been shared online. According to MP1ST, these images were shared by an unnamed artist who worked for Aspyr, and put them into their portfolio. Most of the images are of assets that would have appeared in the game or been utilized as weapons, including a blaster, blaster rifle, and Vibroblades. Other images include computer interfaces and what appear to be props that would likely have been found around the world of the game.

In addition to the images, the artist provided a bit of detail about some of the elements of the game. Aspyr's KOTOR remake would have utilized a modular weapon system, allowing players to upgrade their weapons by changing the parts equipped to them. Fans of the franchise looking at the images have expressed excitement over the look of the Vibroblades in particular, as well as the impressive photorealism of some of the images.

Unfortunately, aside from reassuring fans that it's still in the works , Saber Interactive's KOTOR remake has largely gone quiet. Even in the event that it escapes development hell and sees a release, it's highly unlikely that any of these assets will be included or that the game will necessarily look remotely like this due to the change in developer. Since development on the Aspyr version of the KOTOR remake started many years ago, there's a chance that a Saber Interactive remake could look even better than what's seen in these images. Whether that actually ends up being the case remains to be seen.
